"Hospitals are always this full over the winter"

ICU admissions this winter, compared to previous winters.

 

Hospitals themselves are arent they? It's the ICU's that aren't I thought. Semantics I know

 

People tend to die from Flu whilst in ICU.

You also say COVID is like flu.

 

I said that I thought hospitals were usually full ICU's weren't.

And it is like flu only more contagious and with less vaccinated people. Both are respiratory viruses that kill people.

2017/18 winter was worse in last few years 50,000 excess deaths in UK ,do not get me wrong I am not a covid non believer but shows how less reactive we were only a couple of years ago to excess deaths,

 

I still don't think Lockdowns are an effective way of combating a Virus such as Covid, unless they are total lockdowns and include border closures. Anything else is pointless.
Appreciate this is what you have wanted from the start. It's not going to happen and fatigue amongst many will make this less effective than last March.

I know 4 people that are currently in hospital in various stages. It's an absolute nightmare situation.

The measures we've taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19 also work in preventing the spread of other viruses like influenza, which is why many believe we've had fewer cases this year.

 

good point Jay, but 50,000 excess flu deaths, you would have thought there would have been an outcry

 

People are struggling with the concept of staying at home unless having to go out for something essential. I remember how quiet the roads were at the start of Lockdown 1. There doesn't seem to be any difference in traffic this time.

 

Out of sight out of mind

 

Our reaction as a society to the current virus is not proportionate to our reaction to fatalities from any other cause with the exception of terrorism. There are many reasons for that, but the main reason there wasn't an outcry to the deaths from flu was that it wasn't deemed newsworthy. There are thousands of deaths from flu every year, some years are worse than others and although there is a lot of data and studies on this it rarely makes the headlines.
