It's a little more subtle than that.

The problem as I see it is that everyone with half a brain can see that Casual Tyke is a space cadet. But half-hearted support for a proven racist, misogynistic liar masquerading as support for an "alternative view" is to my mind somewhat dishonest and very distasteful. If you support Trump (or his Republican enablers) that's up to you. But to find such mealy-mouthed "even-handedness" coming from someone regarded as a Forum elder on here is regrettable to my way of thinking. It is not - to my mind - consistent with the values of the majority of posters on this forum. If you find it palatable well fine - that's up to you. I'm afraid I can't agree.

"Hang Mike Pence" is what some of the protesters were chanting. But hey, let's have an alternative view!

Wow. I genuinely don’t know where to start with that. Even if I take what you say at face value and 100% correct, which it’s miles off, are you suggesting because there’s a difference of opinion on something someone shouldn’t be an ‘elder’. I can’t even figure out what you mean be mealy-mouthed even handedness.

Here’s a list of the things I haven’t done; told any lies, shared any conspiracy theories, agreed with any conspiracy theories, engaged in any chat about conspiracy theorists, not called out what needs calling out, support anything racist, support anything violent, get confrontational with anyone, be disrespectful to anyone.

What I have done, based on the fact that I personally know a fair few Americans and spend a hell of a lot of time there; challenge the view that all Trump voters are racist or stupid, answer questions on ‘how could anyone vote for Trump’, challenge some of the media stories that do have an alternative side to them, give genuine and actual reasons why Americans vote Republican. You can still disagree with all that, I’ve not being fighting back, but at least there has been merit in those examples.

I’ve tried to do this nicely and in the spirit of the BBS but that hasn’t been returned to me. I’ve been accused of all sorts without any evidence to support it, just claims that I can’t possible believe what I say or possibly be in the middle ground. I’ve had to defend myself at every corner and many times you either get silence or an apology. The fact that people have to resort to personal attacks on this, and try and pigeon hole you in a category you’re not in, just to score points, is exactly what you claim to be distasteful. The challenges against me for not falling 100% in line with your view are upsetting, exhausting, and completely unfair. It basically just isn’t very nice being in my shoes on this one, and that’s being way more honest than I wanted to be.

I’ve said it before, but this is exactly why there is the silent voter. It’s not nice to put your head above the parapet if you don’t fall on the right side of the opinion, and I’m not even massively on the opposite side to you anyway.

Not just my view, Loko. I'll not be equivocal on this.

Hmmm, is it possible that you're confusing an appeal for balance in American politics with straight out terrorism? What you have highlighted is no more the view of a typical Republican than it is that of a Democrat. I don't agree with the political view of a Republican anymore than I agree with the political view of a Tory, but as much as I disagree with the ideology of what is basically half of UK and US voters, there is a miniscule fraction of those that want to hang Mike Pence. Actually, I'm pretty sure there are far more of us who would like to do it whose political ideals are diametrically opposed to Republicans (We judge him on his cowardice over the last 4 years in not standing up to his boss, who he clearly disagreed with, rather than what we should, which is the dignity he has demonstrated in the last few weeks) . Well, in theory anyway, not in practice, because Tories, Republicans, Democrats, Socialists and even Loko tend not to be so extreme that they actually want him hurt.

And I wasn’t just referring to you. I think I’m done with this thread to be honest. You might not want to be equivocal, but you’re also only responding with ‘but so and so thinks it too’. All the points I made still stand.

    Supporting Loko !

Sometime disagrees with what he says but he never resorts to personal attacks against posters who disagree with him.

I've barely contributed to this thread, but having waded through many pages, it's quite obvious that Casual Tyke is a WUM. Quite good at it too, because folk are still engaging with him. Someone compared him to Hemsworth Tyke and whilst I get why they did, it's not the same. Hemsworth wasn't a WUM. He genuinely believed what he posted. Sometimes he'd post stuff to get a reaction, but he wasn't a WUM. Young Nudger was a WUM. He posted nonsense for attention. Casual Tyke has been doing exactly that.

As for Loko (Benj), he's posted for months about the reasons Americans vote Trump. In this and other threads. I don't think he's a Trump fan, nor do I think he finds terrorism funny etc. But he's a mate so I'm biased.

Weather he's a WUM or not Whitey his stuff is in appalling taste.
    Some things just aren't funny.
I've always found that type of humour, if that's what it is, utterly pathetic. In this instance it's beyond that.
