I've got three Carlisle game where keeper Jimmy Glass scored the winner in the last minute to keep them up. (Also attended the game year after where they were relegated ) That Everton v Wimbledon game ... weirdest atmosphere I've ever known at a game of football. Last ever European Cup Winners Cup final at Villa Park. Anyone else got any?
England 5 Cyprus 0 Malcolm Macdonald scored all five Sheffield Wednesday 4 Sheffield United 0 in 3rd Division in front of 49,000+ aka Boxing Day massacre. Went with father in law who was a big Wednesday fan. They still sing about it 40 years later.
Final of Euro ‘96 at Wembley, Germans beat Czech Republic with a golden goal in extra time. Terrible anti-climax after we were sure England would reach the final
Not been to many games not involving us. I will go for FA Trophy 2nd round replay in February 1997 when Emley lost 5-1 to Kidderminster after getting a 0-0 draw away. Memorable for the hat trick Lee Hughes scored as on that night he was class and looked to be playing below his level, but I never expected him to go on and have as good of a career that he did before his prison stint. Harriers took up a fair few fans as well probably a few hundred scattered around which was an impressive turn out for a cup night hours from home.
Huddersfield play off final vs Mansfield. I'm sure Bobby Hassell played that day? York City dropping out of football league early 2000s Valetta winning the title in Malta 96-97 I think. Just happened to be there on holiday so my dad took us. First game at new Wembley vs Brazil Nothing major to me but I'm sure to supporters of the clubs involved thought they were.
1974/5 Ipswich v Leeds in FA cup. Over 38000 in Portman Road. I was at Essex uni and used to watch Ipswich home games. They were brilliant in those days with fantastic players.
Attended first game back at Anfield after the Hillsborough disaster which was against Forest. They received a standing ovation from the home fans
Two FA Cup semi finals both at Hillsborough...1973 Arsenal 1 Sunderland 2 great day Sunderland went on to beat the Leeds scum in the final and 1974 Burnley 0 Newcastle 2 both goals scored by Malcolm McDonald "Supermac" and he was that day also the most noise I'd ever heard in a stadium Two great games in the era when the cup mattered
Champions League final in 2003, Juve v AC Milan First ever England game at new Wembley Old Trafford when Beckham beat Greece on his own to qualify for World Cup. England v France Euro 2004 where Gerrard tossed the game away with the late back pass and Zidane was sick on the pitch before converting the last minute penalty Behind the goal for the famous Henrik Larson diving header versus Bulgaria. The night of the Wally with the Brolly at Wembley. League Cup final between Bolton and Boro. Non football but I was at the Antigua test, also in 2004 when Lara got 400 and broke the world record. Been to a couple of rugby league challenge cup finals and grand finals.
Was at the 1980 fa cup final when west ham (my second team) beat arsenal. In the arsenal end with a hammers scarf stuffed down my jeans LoL. 1997 rugby league final, Sheffield eagles beat Wigan, huge upset. 2015 rugby league final, daughter danced on Wembley pitch at half time. Sat amongst hull fans who were great, Leeds tonked them 54:0. No word of a lie, at end, turned to my lad and said, do you know what, Ive got a strange feeling we'll be back here with Barnsley soon. Complete opposite, most insignificant nothing ever, Derby v Charlton Feb 1988, freezing cold, baseball ground sand pit and 0:0 worst game ever
Fortuna Dusseldorf at Nuremberg....I'm a Fortuna fan and planned the trip 6 months in advance. Were top of division 2 for months but got cold feet in the last few games and overtaken by Nuremberg with 1 game to go. Nuremberg went 2-0 up in the first half (we got one back just before half time). We got the winner in the 3rd minute of added time..that won us the 2nd division title ...crazy scenes afterwards. I'd travelled the length of Germany to see that with my wheelchair bound missus.....and it was worth it
Holland vs Argentina 1998 WC, reason why after watching Bergkamp live 5 times I think he's the best I've ever seen. ******* genius and magician!
Quite a few Tenerife games, as we (that means me lol ) tied in holidays with when they play. The Spanish football season goes well into June and last time was when they were in the playoffs June 2017, got to their last home game and the 2nd leg of the playoff semi-final . Also quite a few Leeds games when I was a kid in the 70s (*sorry*) as Dad used to be a Leeds supporter before I converted him lol A couple of Emley games when King Ronnie used to be manager. Aston Villa v Deportivo La Coruna 1993 UEFA Cup - awful game. Went with a Villa Supporter when I worked in Birmingham Some England Youth games played at the Bescott stadium in Walsall, a young Michael Owen played
just had a watch of the highlights of the liverpool - newcastle final... Dodworther, Pat Howard was playing. As was Frank Clarke (Allan's bro). Bobby Moncur and Ian Callaghan who I met some twenty years later. here...
Rushden and Diamonds v Cheltenham playoff final at Cardiff in '02 Diamonds were my local team and we got a supporter's coach over. A certain Mr Devaney scored Cheltenham's first in a 3-1 win Also went to the AFC Wimbledon v Luton play off final in 2011 at the City of Manchester stadium (sat in the Wimbledon end)
Not significant. But brother took me to old Trafford to see, for me the greatest footballer ( outside of the king of course ) ever. League game Man. Utd v West Brom. GEORGE BEST. Alongside a few others.
I used to go wath them in 78/79/80 when I was at college in Norwich. Always preferred Portman Road to Carrow Road.
Couple of FA Cup semis at Hillsborough. Arsenal v Liverpool and Spurs v Wolves. Couple of England games at Wembley v Northern Ireland and Czechoslovakia. UEFA Cup Quarter Final, Ipswich v FC Koln. Euro 96 Bulgaria v Spain at Elland Road and the QF at Old Trafford Gdrmany v Croatia.
