Hello to everyone out there. Not posted for a long long time. I enjoy reading all the to and fro and banter etc. All very entertaining, and great to see all the different perspectives and opinions that people have about the way we play, players, owners and everything Barnsley. Living over in Scarborough now, from Hemsworth via Tenerife Posting tonight as I am completely fed up at shouting at the TV screen for the same thing!!!!! "put a man on the post at corners!!!" (and tonight long throws) I know there's lot's of ways to defend corners 1. man for man 2. zonal 3. all 11 in box 4. leave 4 up front But in each case, however you choose to set up and as we have seen lot's of time THIS SEASON having a man on the post, or both posts saves goals. Also from a long throw as we've seen tonight 1. The size of the goal is reduced considerably 2. The man on the post can stop a goal 3. This style of defending gives the keeper more confidence Sorry to rant!!!! It just winds me up completely and is just schoolboy stuff and also percentage wise reduces the risk of conceding.......... yes I know not having men on the post "potentially" catches a player offside if there is a flick on but let's just concentrate on keeping the bloody ball out of the goal!!!! The amount of goals (and I might count them later) that could have been easily cleared by a man on the post is frankly getting silly......... and no I don't like zonal marking but that's not the point in this post DISCUSS
you can not do that its not 1971, as you say great idea, or put Walton on a post as he not gonna catch it
Thought we'd started to do better at corners and then tonight happened! I agree with your points regarding corners but can only think that in theory the way we are setting up for them should be better, or else why do we do it?
We may as well have players on the posts, we keep everyone back anyway and we’re conceding too many goals. That said, not sure it would’ve prevented the first goal, with the way it looped in.
great tactic that, plus he takes 15 mins out of the game for them ambling from one side of field to take them, best long throws seen for a while though, poor Herbie was struggling with his
He never got it far enough to reach our man for him to win a flick on. Their long throws were dropping right into the heart of our area.
We must put a player on the back post at least - surely out of 11 in the box one could do that - I think we’ve conceded 4 goals recently by not doing this
Standard tactic for Sean Dyche teams...when Burnley first went up, full backs dropped back inside the post as soon as the corner came in, Trippier saved a good bagful of goals.
Did it say, during Saturdays game, we'd conceded a division-high 11 from set pieces so far this season? That's absolutely shocking if true. Added to that, only Helik seems to be able to do anything of note from attacking set pieces - Sollbauer and Mads haven't a single goal between them during their time here. We've improved in many areas under Ismael but some serious work is needed on corners/free kicks etc.
I have to say, i,ve been quite confident with the defence for quite while now, but i must admit, in the last few games i,ve gone straight back to the stendal days when you just dreaded dead ball situations around the final third...
