Here's a link to an excellent article from Irish Journalist Fintan O'Toole on the challenges facing Joe Biden. It's a long piece but well worth a read. I have put an extract below which sums up the dreadful legacy the Republican Party is leaving Biden. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2021/jan/16/can-joe-biden-make-america-great-again "If he did not know this already, the Republicans’ support for the nullification of the November election, maintained by its leaders in the House of Representatives even after the storming of their citadel, has surely brought it home to him. The most basic rule of the old order – the acceptance of the result of an election – can no longer be taken for granted. There has been an open attempt to turn the US into an authoritarian regime in which elections exist merely to endorse the eternal strongman. What has happened once can happen again. And this is not just about Trump. Nearly 75 million people voted for him knowing (because he repeatedly told them so) that he would never accept defeat. Almost the entire Republican party in Congress either explicitly supported his attempt to subvert democracy or sat silent for months while it unfolded. For Biden to pretend that he can restore a pre-Trump normality would be disastrous. Trump and the Republican base he still owns will simply exploit conciliation to make Biden look weak and foolish." On Friday while Biden unveiled his plan to deal with the pandemic and its economic consequences, the President of the United States of America was meeting the CEO of a bedding company (the Pillow Man!) to discuss the declaration of a military coup. That's really all you need to know about these two folk. And Rudy is back on board and is going to use the Impeachment Trial to reveal (at last) the evidence that the election was stolen. This from a man who has led over court cases where no evidence has been forthcoming.
I'll leave this here for anyone who wants to watch . Chris hedges , one of the best political commentators on the left . Really goes into the history of the democratic party and explains the rise of trump and why it happened . Really sobering stuff if I'm being honest but a must watch if you have a reasonable idea of US political history .
it's going to be the worst anti-climactic ending to anything ever. it's going to be worse than lost. I'm predicting something on the lines of 'well at least we had fun lads.'
Anyone fancy knocking up a bingo card? WE HAD FUN LADS, YEAH? SOCIAL EXPERIMENT HAD YOU ALL GUESSING FOR WEEKS ACHIEVED WHAT I PLANNED ALL ALONG YOU ALL FELL FOR IT VERY INTERESTING NO INTEREST IN US POLITICS CASHED OUT A BET TRUMP IS THE NEXT PRESIDENT I'LL EXPLAIN IT ALL IN FEBRUARY I'LL EXPLAIN IT ALL AFTER THE MID-TERMS IT'S FOR MY THESIS ON COLLECTIVE MORALITY Eyes down for a line, then full-house. I WAS JUST WINDING YOU ALL UP HE DIDN’T LEAVE UNTIL WEDNESDAY LATE MORNING SO TECHNICALLY HE WAS STILL PRESIDENT SO IM RIGHT....followed by a manic laugh
I know exactly what will happen on January 20th. Picture the scene: Donny Red, Micky Finn, BarnsleyReds, Bossman and Casual tyke. Suddenly Micky Finn rips off Casual tykes’ face - it’s a mask! “It’s the janitor!” “And I would have got away with it if it hadn’t been for you meddling BBSers!” Scooby snacks all round. End.
The thing is...anyone who gets their kicks winding up people on a message board really needs to seek psychiatric help. And that's written in all seriousness.
Very true. It’s not something I’ll ever understand. I’m also confused because one day we’re flipping towards being genuinely concerned for mental health and the next we’re flopping to a free for all pile on again.
It’s difficult because the behaviour of the individual is just odd. I don’t believe there’s any actual mental health issue* - but I’m no expert. *as I’ve posted before; IMO this is a fairly typical common or garden troll. And also rather than seeing it as responsible for the ‘entertainment’ I consider it a distraction from a discussion about a very interesting time in world politics.
But wind-up merchant/ conspiracy theorist/ person with MH issues? Which is he? I believe that Trump is a side-issue to the worrying existence of the Q-Anoners. I believe that Trump saw a handy tiger to ride on the back of their mad theories. But Trump ditches people as soon as their usefulness is exhausted. Trump is done on Wednesday, and he'll have enough on his plate thereafter. I don't personally believe he'll re-emerge. [No agenda, or points to make here Loko] But the Q-Anoners will still be in the shadows, and probably a headache for the US authorities going forward. Social media is a powerful force, but the ill-effects it brings need careful consideration. With rights come responsibilities.
I was just going off directly what people in this thread have said. One minute people are worried for his mental health. The next it’s a pile-on and he’s been called out again. I’ve steered well clear of all the conspiracy stuff and will continue to do so.
