On Talksport. He said about us "Very good side" ....... "some really talented youngsters coming through" ...... "I was very impressed with Barnsley" Also his last 4 pens have gone down the middle. Said it was registered at 74mph. Bet Jack's fingers were stinging.
The Louis Theroux interview (podcast) with Deeney is really interesting. He's certainly lived a life and is very open and honest about past mistakes etc. Comes across really well.
Perhaps it was abit to hit right not much but abit he got a hand to it but when a balls been hit towards you at 74mph from 12 yards I can forgive him for not stopping it. I never expect a goalkeeper to stop a penalty you always expect the taker to score so a save is always a bonus. It was a very avoidable penalty that we gave away but we will learn.
My point arose from your post stating it was laughable for anyone to suggest Walton should have saved it. I can imagine that there were many without much of a sense of humour when they saw what actually happened. It was saveable.
Like the original poster says most of deeneys penaltys I've watched him take he goes down the middle with alot of power. I think it's harsh to say he should have saved it he got a good hand on it but it was just too powerful for him. If we kept our hands by our sides while defending he wouldn't be having this debate....
There is indeed a tenuous argument for sticking Brittain in the nets, as he can clearly get a proper hand on a Deeney boot forward.
Or he wasn’t doing a Groucho Marx impression on line ,sure I saw him flinch,a flinching goalkeeper no good for no one
To be fair, it isn't. Deeney for example, is talking after the game if he's saying "I was very impressed with Barnsley". Plus it's been read on here many a time about how other team's fans said we ought not to be where we are in the league (usually when we're near the bottom and just been beaten by them. If we win we're poxy gits).
It’s easy to be magnanimous after a victory. Whilst I can’t argue against the fact we’ve been found wanting against the better sides in this division. Especially when it comes to the nuances of quality in possession and around the opposition’s box. We remain competitive and continue to exceed expectations when it comes to league position. Deeney didn’t have to make those remarks, but he is correct. We are a good side this season with obvious limitations. I believe that Val knows this and is employing tactics to get the most out of the squad in terms of results. Our team is young, it is developing at a rate faster than I expected this season, but we do lack quality and pace in key areas. I’m certain Val knows that too and he has my backing and support this season.
