Doug O'Kane (@dougokane88) Tweeted: I understand Isaac Christie-Davies is close to leaving Barnsley on loan for the remainder of the season to an overseas club. The midfielder, 23, signed a 3-year deal with the Reds in the summer but is yet to make his league debut in senior football. #barnsleyfc
I wish we would stop hoarding young players in the hope that a few come off. With the amount of money we've wasted in transfer fees, wages, loaning out players and paying up contracts we could trim the squad to quality over quantity.
strange comment, hes 23 so not so young was a free transfer and will be on a very small wage due to previous injury problems. However having come through the ranks at Liverpool must have something about him. A rather inexpensive gamble (which hasn't necessarily failed yet) I honestly don't see anything wrong with our policy the youngsters provide back up and potential competition for places as they improve.
I reckon the money wasted on guys who can't get on our bench or can't buy a start would have been enough to sign Mowatt on a long term contract and have some left over.
But its not smart to only have a squad the size of the starting 11 and 7/9 subs is it? you need other players in the background pushing for a place in the squad as it brings the best out of those currently been selected aswell, or atleast that's how I see it
After reading this I checked to see who had replied and see others have said the same, was just the 1st thing that came into my head. Although hes normally pretty good O'Kane so maybe if it was Oostende he would be aware of that.
Romal Palmer, in his interview in Grove Street the other week said he massively matured during his loan move to Darlington, playing competitive football against grown men not U23 players. Perhaps that is what Wolfe, Brammal and ICD need rather than being on the bench for us and occasional cameo appearances.
Certainly agree that it can be productive, if they get proper playing time. VI has given a lot of young players a chance that hadn't featured much, but has also been fairly ruthless weeding out some he doesn't rate. At the end of the day that's the manager's job. U23's football is not like the old days of the Central League, etc where lots more old pros were in the teams.
Are there only like 15 Barnsley fans on twitter? Its the same ones who reply to every tweet, and they're always moaning, or asking for news on transfer rumours. It's a weird old place.
I thought he was a decent poster who made some really good contributions. However, when he got a bee in his bonnet about something he could be completely intolerable. I'm sure I can too about certain things, I just don't tend to carry it over onto a football forum!
J Just be thankful it's only a comparative few to the likes of the bigger Premier League sides, who seemingly have endless legions of virgins and foreign "fans" tweeting "banter club", "ratioed" and "small club" at every other team's twitter account. A strange place it is indeed.
Haha fair assessment. I remember him getting a lot of abuse for saying something and then going quiet for ages- i think we had won, however he was able to laugh at himself as his next thread was "the kracken awakes" or something along those lines!
I genuinely wonder what he'd make of us this season. Not a great deal to moan about so far, though still many areas for improvement. I really hope that he's enjoying the progress we've made.
I could be wrong but I think it’s meant to be when a reply to a tweet gets more likes than the original tweet. Loads seem to just say “ratioed” for no reason though, it gets annoying.
