I think a loan would probably be the best option if we want someone to come straight into the team. Would bring in the player we need for now, but then give us the chance to reassess Simoes, Thomas, Aitchison and Brammall at the end of the season. Nixon suggesting that our bid for Joseph was knocked back, and that the player isn't pushing for a move, so that one isn't looking likely.
Would rather us loan a up and coming young striker from a prem club than panic buying on deadline day.
From th'Wegin lorcarl pairpur: And administrator Paul Stanley says he fully expects Joseph to remain a Latics player beyond Monday's 11pm deadline. "We're not planning on losing Kyle, and we're certainly not encouraging any more bids for him," he told Wigan Today. "We're getting towards the end of the window now so, unless somebody came in with a stupid offer, we wouldn't even be looking at it. - and we haven't looked at it. "The only offer we've had is from Barnsley last week - which is in the public domain - and that was rejected verbally last week, and rejected formally by email on Monday. "No-one else has come in, and we don't want anyone else to come in. "I think the lad himself is level-headed, he's enjoying his football, he's playing regularly in the first team. "Obviously we also have a duty to the creditors, and if someone came in with a million quid up front we might have a decision to make. "But at the same time I don't want to do anything to jeopardise the sale of the club, I don't want the club to get relegated, and you want to keep hold of your best players. "So as far as that goes we're not encouraging any offers and we don't want any more offers." Barnsley's offer was reported to be £500,000 which, with the player out of contract this summer, they were hoping would be enough. Stanley, though, says it was not even worthy of consideration. "It's at that number, but it's not cash up front," he said. "Half of it is on the never-never, so it's not at that level."
Well he's put out the bullsh1t to placate the Wigan fans, if we go in with our 'proper' offer we might have a chance
Wigan Athletic spokesperson in ironic reference to football transfer fees being on the "never never".
Just done some research and discovered that both Lee Gregory and Chuks Aneke are out of contract with their respective clubs in the summer.
They're going down with or without Joseph. Anyone coming in will only pay the price of a league 2 club. I'd take the money now for the creditors (incidentally the same amounts they reportedly wasted on the court case appealing their relegation)
I thought it was an ailment not dissimilar to irritable bowel system. I stand, or sit (painfully) corrected.
If you sign Lee Gregory it means you're dropping Woodrow. They're both Number 9's in the middle of that front three and I don't think Gregory is as good at linking up build up play personally. I really liked the more aggressive Woodrow that I saw last night and it got him a goal - should have been two, could have been three. He's also only scored something like 25 league goals in 130+ league games so is he the goalscorer that everyone is saying we need? Not for me. Also think he's peaked and is likely out of contract for a reason as the Championship is beyond him now - but a great striker for a promotion chasing League One side.
The administrator of any business has a duty to the creditors to maximise their return within an acceptable time period. An interesting approach to administration from the chaps at Begbies Traynor.
Whenever people go on about big hairy arsed strikers, Alan Shearer comes to mind, at 6ft he wasn’t tiny but was an average height, but was good in the air, never got bullied and always put himself about. Appreciate maybe not a great example as we will never get someone of that quality, but my point being you don’t need to be a hulking giant to succeed.
Whenever the ball goes wide, Woodrow should be making the sort of run across the front post that he made for his goal last night, so he can attack the cross in the same way. If he does that he’ll get 20+ this season.
