That's not really a difference in law though, right? I'm also fairly sure that Catalonia was independent more recently than Scotland was. You could say the same about the north or south of Italy, or pretty much all of Germany. What constitutes 'a nation' and what doesn't is always just made up, either by a government or by people. It can't stand up in court. (This is a genuine question, by the way. Definitely not trying to push a unionist argument. Just wondering what your man is basing his conclusion on.)
Ok I’m not up on much Catalonia or Spain so I must bow to your superior knowledge. So was Catalonia once a country in its own right? If so then the same status as Scotland. I’m open to be educated here.
Oil reserves will be worth naff all as fossil fuels are phased out in the next 30 years. What's that leave them with - a bit of hydro and possibly wind and wave power?
It’s already well under way with global governments finally waking up and from 2030 with the EV changes, that process will be accelerated. I certainly wouldn’t want to gamble the future of my country’s economy on fossil fuels.
When was the last time? There has never been a time when Scotland has resigned from a political union with England.
Aye I quickly googled it and seems to be quite a complicated situation. I never knew this but good luck to them in their quest for independence.
I like Scotland. I like the people of Scotland. I think if they break from the union they'll be a poorer country. I don't think England will, not financially at any rate, but culturally we will. But it's not any of my business really, it's for the people of Scotland to decide.
Most of the fishing waters for the UK. And fishing is seen as an almost totemic industry by certain sectors of the population.
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned in the thread but didn’t we ( England ) join Scotland not the other way round The Union flag was introduced by James the VI the then king of Scotland on inheriting the English and Irish crowns , so technically a vote for independence is a vote to kick England out of the Union not Scotland leave
