The council have sold the locals down the river , they have sold acres of green belt to Hermes who are going to stick the biggest distribution centre in Europe there , plus taking acres of prime land for housing development , industrial units & other white elephants , despite the fact that you struggle to get a doctors appointment , a trip to the dentists or get your kids a local school place this wonderful council have decided to throw the locals under the bus , they will claim it is bringing jobs to the area which is true but all these developments could have been built on brown belt land & the locals or anyone in south yorkshire for that matter can take advantage of any jobs created . The locals have sent in a petition with over 2000 people objecting but that has been ignored & the convenience of the pandemic has allowed them to steamroll everything through with no problem, it sickens me , a labour voter all my life , well when the next local election comes around they will not be getting my cross , I am totally disgusted . Rant over !

Cheers for the info. Is Hermes on the DV Parkway? What is going on down the side of the M1 towards Chapeltown?

I think you've summed it up perfectly. I spent 6 years living in Hoyland Common in my youth and it's going to be unrecognisable when I next visit. It makes me furious what they are doing to the area.

What’s on DV parkway then? On the right as you head towards Wombwell?

All down the motorway between the main road from the roundabout down to somewhere near the allotments next to the bull farm shop is going to be a new Hermes warehouse with new bypass. The Rockingham centre near the roundabout (the place that does archery etc) is getting bulldozed for it and the road to tankersley is being essentially cut off.

It's had virtually no support from locals and lots of objections but was passed by the council and the diggers moved in within minutes of it being passed. They were literally parked on the land waiting for a phone call to say the council had passed it and started digging immediately.

Then there's the trees and wildlife being ripped up along the parkway. Trees that were planted 20 years ago are now gone and more industrial units are going there.

It kills me to say it but vote for whoever is best placed to unseat Labour in your ward. They've been dragging this town downhill for decades, totally unopposed.

And if you continue to vote Labour don't complain if it's your town or village next.

The giant warehouse unit that was built some years ago just off the bypass behind Metaliform is visible from my bedroom window in Stanley Wakefield some 22 miles away.

Don't know about this case but the standard tactic is to overestimate the numbers of jobs in order to impress councils enough to ignore their Greenbelt restrictions and general green credentials (pseudo credentials in many cases) .
Once it's built the green space is f***ed forever and the fact that only a small percentage of the 'projected' jobs ever materialise is an inconvenient fact never mentioned again.
The simple fact is that developers lie and many council officers are not prepared or capable of questioning bogus figures.
