Dearne valley parkway. Already designated brown belt. Infrastructure already in place and It would have added around 5 minutes extra travel to the motorway at most

I'm not into logistics or owt like that but it maybe that 5mins of coming & going times many thousands a year will add up to many extra hours & fuel cost. Hermes may have insisted on the current location, like I say not an expert, just a thought.

They probably did yes because it does make a difference but the council could have said nope sorry it's 5 minutes further away or its nowhere at all.
In fact the closest location of the same size on the DVP would be no extra travel time at all.

Do you honestly think Hermes would say 'ok we won't travel 2 extra minutes, we will move and travel 20 instead'?

The site was their first choice (can't fault them) and the council had absolutely no objection to it at all. Negotiation never entered the table because Barnsley council didn't want to. They took the first location Hermes suggested.

It was a done deal from day one, that's why diggers were parked in the fields waiting for the pen to hit the paper

Like I say I'm no expert but why have BMBC decided to build where they have?

Because they were offered money and they are extremely weak. The planning committee do not care where or how things are built as long as it is. If they cared they would have rejected the proposals and suggested alternatives.

Just look at penny pie park or the development on playing fields in dodworth to see how little they actually care about the impact these decisions have on the residents of Barnsley.

What I want to know is why did the Hermes developer know the application was going to be passed in advance? The diggers were o the fields with their engines in waiting for the pen to hit the paper

I obviously couldn't tell you what rates and how much income the town will receive from Hermes having a huge distribution centre here. Is that the key factor? The exact amount?

When I mentioned the dearne valley parkway you asked exactly where. Are you trying to trip me up just because we disagree and I don't think destroying a community was the right move?

You're right of course. It's entirely possible that Barnsley will receive absolutely no money from this. People will work for free, there will never be any business rates or anything at all. I didn't think of that.

I don't think it's right to destroy Gotland common to build Hermes there isn't that an acceptable opinion without having a barrage of questions asking for specific figures, locations and times?

There is no rumbling to be done...as soon as it's passed by the Planning Cttee, that's it...the only people who might check are people who have been affected by it, but there are no clauses written in for job guarantees and no penalties for not delivering what was promised in the application.
