It would be a first, actually, but I'll have to hold off. I'm saving it for something really offensive.

We can afford that easily when we go up ... the board are just showing a bit of foresight ...

That’s a hell of a price to pay for a dyke.

What would be the point in getting him in on loan if we have no intention to buy!! The only time that would make sense would be if we were having a pop at promotion, but as the Club and numerous threads have made clear over recent days - there's zero evidence of that.

To improve the team while younger players develop, or while they look for permanent targets in the summer?

"While younger players develop." Except the ones he's replacing? He's hardly bringing a shed load of experience to the Club - he's only 20. Ordinarily It would seem like a good signing, i just don't understand 'the plan'?

Just a few things spring to mind:
    1. $20M seems a very high price for someone who has only played 17 games @ MSL level. Either this lad is the next big thing or someone's added a zero too many.
    2. I think a bigger barrier than price would be him deciding between living in Orlando or Barnsley. Obviously I'd choose tarn, but I was born there ;)
    3. If it is indeed $20M, but we think he's worth $30M then maybe we will buy him (and then sell him immediately ... we can ... and usually do ... buy a lot of midfielders for $10M)

Might be talent there but the $20 million cant be right for a 20 year old with 8 MLS goals.

    $2 million sounds more credible.

I think the playing rights issue is more of a MLS team to MLS team type rule, as third party rules are banned in most European leagues

They did that at Nice. It enables you to sign better players but it's a gamble. You only need one £20 million duffer you can't shift on for a profit and you're up creek.

Seem fair enough. Loan him until the end of the season, if he’s not up to it send him back to Trumpton, if he’s ok or has potential then negotiate accordingly.
But there’s no way we’d pay 20 million dollars for him. Not US or even HK.
It’s not part of the business model I suspect.

No, but i can’t imagine Orlando would be rushing to swap him for Schmidt, Miller, Vic or any of the four forwards we have out on loan. So the club are probably bringing him in because they think he can improve our front line, like the coach asked for.
They can then reassess the squad in the summer.

Does the fair still come through, so he’s not missing Orlando too much?

Anyone got a clue how the Generation Adidas program is affected if so?

So what is the purpose of the loan? Are we having a tilt at the Premiership?

The purpose of the loan is to improve the front line, and back the coach with what he has asked for.
