James is a wonderful player but I do understand why VI decided to send him back to allow Palmer and to an extent Kane to develop.
Surely it’s simple. We let a player go who we were never going to sign in order to develop 2 young players of our own by giving them minutes. James was a good player but we need to develop players who will be playing for us next year. If you can’t see the benefit to that then I’m not sure you’re thinking properly about where we are a as a club. I’m certain we’re we lower in the table we would have retained him but fortunately we appear to be in a position to blood younger players which is going to be of a long term benefit to them and us. the fact is loads on here go on about developing our own players. We can’t do that if players like James (who again I rate highly) are there blocking their route. Regarding Dike there is an argument that we are developing a player we can sign and even if we don’t he is filling a need not necessarily blocking potentially quality younger players development.
The chances of us buying him are actually less than zero. It's caused a bit of a stir at a number of universities. No mathematician has ever successfully calculated the probability of an event occurring being less than zero before. But this calculation has been reproduced thousands of times and peer reviewed. Professor Rick of Scumbag College was quoted as saying, "Not only have Barnsley less than zero chance of signing Dike, they're actually going to pay the Orlando club to sign Mowatt and Woodrow who they can monitor under the pretence of keeping tabs on Dike. Meanwhile Dike will have zero impact while at Barnsley. He looks like a good prospect, but he's a kid, he's playing in the freezing cold on a ploughed field and there are experienced central defenders who will scare the skin off him. Mathematically it's a very interesting arrangement, but for Barnsley FC, it's genuinely mental."
I have not seen Val's logic for returning James fully explained. The idea of developing our own is fine. I can see Val going along with this, or even suggesting it, if he thought we had enough points so far to think we would now be OK to let him go. But Val should know we don't have enough points. He certainly knows that getting us in a relegation battle, and even taking us down, is potential professional suicide for him. Developing our own players I would have thought to be well down his priorities until we're well and truly safe.
I'd guess that it's as simple as freeing up a fair chunk of wages to help bring in a striker that Val thought we needed more.
Hmm... Well why did Dike only show up at the end of the transfer window? James went a while ago. Can't see Val saying that James could go on the gamble that we might possibly get a striker in.
We only got Dike after he made an International appearance for USA last Sunday (international clearance points). We got the deal done on Monday afternoon. I say well done to all involved in getting Daryl Dike to our club in a short period of time
If Dane is reading this id appreciate if he could tell me tonight's lottery numbers too as he's clearly got psychic abilities and could see into the future to know dike would make his international debut a few hours before the window closed
