And we will be 6 points off the play offs and 11 points above the final relegation spot. We sit in 12th. Mid table. Yet there is a growing unease and feeling i have been reading on this forum that we will get sucked in to a relegation dogfight or drop like a stone like Hull City last season. Just like to here some thoughts as to why some people may feel the glass is half empty.
No idea and It will be even worse if as I expect we lose at Brentford next Sunday. We will pick up some wins starting later this month we need 5 more I expect us to have those with plenty of games to spare
Probably because we haven’t won for 5 league games and not looked very convincing at either end of the pitch. Teams near the bottom are winning and we aren’t, pure and simple. For the record I think we’ll be alright but could do with a win or two as soon as possible. Brentford away next though and I doubt there’ll be anything to come there....
We’ve had as difficult a run of opponents that you can possibly have in this league during that time. Yes, we are short of the top teams hence the ‘dip’. However, we are unbeaten in 3, picking up a draw away at Forest who are in very decent form and beating Norwich in the cup. I don’t get the negativity/fickleness.
Only Wycombe are obviously worse than a whole load of teams, looking up the table, to us. And we've got 2 points from the last 15
Before today that was exactly the situation, so we have to win to stand still, which sort of answers the question.
Look at our current squad Walton Collins Solbauer Helik Andersson Sibbick Kitching Brittain J Williams Oduor B Williams (injured) Mowatt Styles Kane Palmer Woodrow Dike Morris Chaplin Adeboyejo Frieser Does that say relegation squad to you?
What pointless comparison would we be comparing us to if Hull had stayed up last year? Merchants of doom some folk.
Most of us on here have been around a long time and have seen everything that can happen. I don't count my chickens at 3-0 up with 10 minutes left, because of games like Exeter and Ipswich where we've lost those leads. I've also seen Barnsley 12th after 21 games and only stay up because of a point deduction and 3rd on Boxing Day, only to slump to 12th at season end. I would rather expect the worst and then be pleasantly surprised. It's my coping mechanism.
Since lockdown ended, we've played 36 games and got 51 points (14 wins, 9 draws and 13 defeats). If that's relegation form then I'm a Dutchman. I genuinely don't know what makes some people happy. We were seconds from getting relegated last July (twice) and we all said we would take mid table obscurity this season. Mid table obscurity is what we've now got.
I do get what you're saying, but then it means missing out on the present. Once Struber left and Val came in I felt more confident and its a nice feeling to know we can win if we go behind again and to see Styles and Brittain developing into more than solid players
It looks light on bodies in midfield, particularly as Palmer has a terrible injury record. As for the forwards, Woodrow apart, there aren’t many goals from the rest unless Dike turns out to be a good un. Time will tell but I’m still can’t help being more inclined to look at what’s happening at the bottom than the top. My gut feeling is we’ll finish somewhere between 14th and 18th without ever being in danger. The sooner we get to 50 points though the happier I’ll feel.
As the top 6 pull away, and Wycombe start to look adrift from the rest, the table will be more condensed, which generally means you need more points to stay up. I don’t think people are worried about relegation at this stage, but the possibility of being dragged into a scrap, which if we have a poor month is entirely possible. Whether we have a poor month however, I’ve no idea. We have quite a few games that both sides will see as winnable, so who knows what will happen. Hopefully we can get six wins sooner rather than later and enjoy a few games with nothing resting on it in April
Probably one of the hardest run ins we could have had in Jan. People expect far, far too much from us. We are having a fantastic season. We dont look convincing either end of the pitch? Give me a break. The way I see it, we've played plenty of the top 6 recently, and we've stayed in the game and kept it contested. The only game we haven't been matched in is Cardiff away a while ago. I would have snatched your hand of to be in this position at start of the season. Especially since we're past Jan and kept our best players. Only reason I'd start panicking is if we started to get outplayed and looked as though we couldn't be bothered anymore. And we're far from that scenario in my opinion. I havent been this excited/confident in a championship season for a long time. (Pre-jan 2016 excluded!!)
We haven't sold the best players so they're trying to find something else, have a £20 bet with them that we don't go down, they'll disappear.
Do people also realise we still have Wycombe Owls Rotherham Birmingham Luton Coventry Millwall Huddersfield Preston to play as well as other teams. All very winnable games. I suppose some folk on here will think we may never get another point this season.
All the doom and gloom merchants should invest 10 quid with skybet for us to get relegated at 40/1 that way they can at least get a free season ticket next year if we do
