Currently winning and sitting top of the league on a lengthy unbeaten run - their last loss came on the 24th October!

Sunday is going to be a very tough game!

If Toney is worth £5 million then Woodrow is worth £10!

When we played them last July, Brentford had only lost one of the previous 16 games, winning the previous 8 on the trot.

We know what happened on the 22nd July 2020 don't we?

True. I just hadn’t realised how good they’ve been.

Wasn’t that one loss in their previous game though?

Our victory against Brentford last season was, for me, one of the greatest Barnsley performances I've seen. And the match itself was spellbinding. There was so much at stake: promotion for them, relegation for us, and the quality of football was breathtaking at times. Our work rate was just phenomenal while some of the skill Brentford showed for about 15 minutes in the second half was world class. How we restricted them to just one goal considering the pressure they put us under is such a credit to our young team. Premiership teams would have buckled. And then we get the winner at the end and it's fully deserved. No disrespect to Brentford, they put in a great performance, but we were the better team that day.

Brentford are a great team. I predicted they'd be promoted automatically this season. Much to the derision of my friend who reckoned the sales they made in the summer would leave them also rans. And I like them. I like they way they play and I like a couple of players they've got. I like Ivan Toney. I thought he gave us all he'd got when we had him on loan and I'm not surprised to see he's doing so well. I hoped we'd sign him as although he was still a long way from the finished article, I could see potential. But most of all I could see character. I could see he was giving everything for us and that he wanted to succeed. Although it's Ethan Pinnock I really rate.

Pinnock is one of my favourite players of all time. I don't say this lightly, I think he's the best central defender I've seen play for us. He might even be the best player I've seen play for us. I say that having watched McCarthy and Evans and Futcher and Tiler and Taggart and De Zeeuw and other great defenders. But Pinnock has everything. Futcher's class and McCarthy's grit, and he could outpace them all; he's big and strong and silky skilled. He's just a phenomenal footballer. I'm glad he's doing well. I say this as a late devotee to his fan club. There were many people on here extolling his virtues long before I was. I thought he was a decent player but the praise seemed OTT to me. I was so wrong. I decided I'd watch him for a whole game to see what everyone was talking about. Another BBSer, with whom I shared an opinion, although I didn't know it, independently did exactly the same in the same match. We both reported back the same: everyone was right, he was simply outstanding, it was like watching real magic. He took my breath away.

Obviously I want us to beat them. I believe we're capable of beating anyone in this league. But I wouldn't mind seeing Pinnock, Toney and Brentford in the Premier League next season, once they've got over their defeat against us.

I remember the sports editor in the Chronicle (Doug O’Kane?) repeatedly referring to Pinnock’s ‘frail’ physique and wondering if he’d ever seen a footballer before. It was apparent, to me anyway, that Pinnock is a class act. Pity we gave him away for such a relatively paltry fee. I’ve not bought the Chronicle since it featured Farage on the front page so I don’t know if the Sports Editor’s judgment has improved.

They lost 1-0 at Stoke City on the last saturday of the season, 24 hours after West Brom lost at Huddersfield.

Agree about pinnock class act could tell in that league one season he was alot better than league one and stood out like a saw thumb. His passing out from the back was awesome aswell that season fans player of the season and players and rightly so. Shame he left after promotion.

I can remember Forest Greens owner (after EP signed for us) saying he'd be a PL player one day.

    Hope he's right.

Ps nobody please start a 'sell on clause' thread. I beg you implicitly.

    With respect Jay
“. He might even be thebest player I've seen play for us.”
For someone who must have seen the king himself. That’s way OTT.
Only time will tell, If he performs at the highest level he might be lucky to fit in my top 20,
John stones would lick him hands down on similar attributes imho.
