Kev Nutting used to play darts with him in the old B.F.C. social club along with the long haired kid in the denim suit from Worsborough forgot his name Steve I think.
Yeah. What was his name? Used to write for the Programme. He wasn’t called Steve. He had an old fashioned first name.
Kev sadly passed away years ago with cancer. The darts player was probably Steve Harker from Birdwell who has also passed away according to a thread from a few years back. The old social club back room was my introduction to Barnsley supporting as I went in the door inside the ground at half time and joined the supporters club early 70s. Got pally with Kev, Steve, Reg, Roger and co and had some great trips away on the supporters club bus. Remember waiting for Fudge after the game at Stoke as he was arrested for being drunk trying to enter the ground. They said his speech was slurred and my explanation he always talked like that didn't wash with them Eric was a decent bloke too, tall with glasses
He has something wrong with the roof of his mouth which causes his speech to be impaired if I remember rightly. Used to do a tour of the Ponty saying 'all right my mate' to all and sundry with scarves tied to both wrists. He's mates with my brother John the Millers season ticket holder
Dave was still writing for the programme recently I think. Got to admit I tend not to check the authors names of articles written so may be wrong
Correct him and his brother, my mum grew up with them down Low Valley. There's a funny story about them and a confrontation with a lorry driver who was asking for directions.
Can't recollect Reg writing for programme but i could wrong, He left tarn about 20 years ago living Barrow area I believe.
Yeah. I've got programmes from the early seventies where he wrote. Under 'Supporters Notes' or something like that. Moved from Barnsley to Barrow eh.....Always was a Jet Setter was Reg.
Last time I saw Reg was in the Dove around the time of Prem. I think he said Barrow. Could be totally wrong I'd had a few...
I bumped into Fudge down Wombwell last week. He's still exactly the same as he was at Perfecta, and true to form, when I asked him how he was, he responded with "am alreight my mate". Good to see him still in his flares and his carriers in hand. All is well in the world....
His Brother David was a wise young un when I lived in wombwell. He never bought a drink. Older lads used to send him tut bar to fetch their drinks. “ Get thissen aif David lad, while tha theer” (Station rd club)
Just picking up on this thread - Some of the names mentioned above are on this picture, and correct me if I'm wrong but that's also a photo of Fudge in 1979
I can't see Fudge on any of them but I could be wrong. He was instantly recognisable thus why I don't see him. If he is on there then please tell me which one he is. Good old Kev Nutting !
Someone told me that the lad on the bottom photo in the bar with the caption "one of Barnsley's most dedicated fans" was Fudge. Like I say this may be incorrect - if it is incorrect, then does anyone know who it is. Cheers
