Tell me what the difference is between all the vulnerable groups vaccinated in the coming couple of months and 8 months from now?

I was told I wanted people to die by the man who then posted about how he had been in pubs the second they unlocked their doors

Goal posts moved again. Then when you get the whole adult population vaccinated they will change it to restrictions until all children have had the vaccine and then moved to until elderly/vulnerable have had their third jab and so on and so forth.

Interesting little thread. I guess the good news is we are seeing a reduction prior to the impact of the vaccine. The lockdown has once again proven to be successful in its own limo it’s. what remains in question is if this time the govt has used the breathing space that lockdown creates more wisely than last year. Treating it as an action rather than a reaction was an atrocious failure then let’s hope they have learned from that.

So reduced cases in children have not carried through to reduced cases in the elderly.

Or the vaccine isn't (yet) having the desired affect on infection and serious illness in the older cohort :(

not yet but that’s to be expected due to time lag of vaccination impact, the mixing of families in December and the January outbreak in care homes.

That graph is only infections so who knows on the serious illness.
Let's hope this is a good sign.

It’s good news that closing them partially has helped to get the R rate down certainly.

Or the R rate would have gone down anyway ad with all epidemics the waves and increases don't last forever. But regardless seems insignificant in comparison of the spread in hospital's and care homes.

The R rate has decreased because we have limited contact between humans it really is that simple.

the problem with lockdown scepticism is that it clearly works in itself. An equal problem is if a govt uses it. like ours has, as an end in itself is that it equally clearly will fail.

So even after we have vaccinated all those in the high risk categories we need to essentially stay in horrible restrictions to stop the virus spreading?
    Well that's a cheerful thought.
Even the madman Hancock has come out and said we are going to have to Live with Covid going forward, seemingly ruling out the impossible period of "zero Covid" still he'll probably have changed his mind by tomorrow.

Why do you think zero Covid strategies are ‘impossible’? They have been successful in all the countries that have dealt best with the pandemic. Asian countries with recent history of dealing with SARS viruses embraced them straightaway and the countries that pivoted to them Australia and NZ have also been pretty successful.

Ok they aren't viable long term. Unless you want to close borders completely for a number of years.

You are aware that countries following zero Covid strategies are now fully open for sporting events, festivals, bars and restaurants with no masks etc.
