I’m trying to remember the full rules of Wogga (card game) so I can play it with my kids. I spent hours playing it as a kid with my grandparents - but I can’t remember all the rules?? Can anyone help? Even the internet doesn’t seem to have the answer!!
you could make your own rules up, I never used any proper rules in any game ,do you have to shout WOGGA ! at some point?
It was a collier’s game. As a young guy going into the tap room in my local (Grey Horse at Old Town) I felt privileged to make up a four when required. Played with two packs but that’s about all I can remember. The other game they loved was solo.
I’m sure wogga was a slang word for the game, I can’t remember for the life of me remember the correct name, if it’s the game I’m thinking, was it the one with you put a 2 down and next player takes 2 and 8 miss a turn and jacks chsnge suits? Could be totally wrong game tho
Like you, I played it a lot when I was younger but can I eckers like remember how to play. It was a proper tap-room game. Don’t you need 2 packs of cards? I seem to remember being told it was the Polish that brought the game over during WW2.
http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/why-dont-you-lot-play-a-misters-game-wogga.57487/ just shows the internet never goes away, BBS from 2007
Two packs of cards , leave two jokers in , 13 cards a player , make up runs of at least , three , once a player puts down his runs by taking the card the previous player throws away . Doesn’t need to place them down if runs are made up by taking from stack , only has to lay them down if you take a discarded card . http://www.kalooki.co.uk/howtoplay.htm think these are the rules under a different name but same game .
That and "all hearts" were my favourite games at school (in the 6th form library when we were doing "private study"). Later on when we used to go in the working men's clubs I learned to play and love cribbage which is still my favourite.
Wogga 2 packs of cards. 2 jokers ( to be played as any card) 15 cards each not 13 as Marlon says. . Any 3+ cards make a hand/trick Pick previous card up from prior opponent if you can make 51+ But you have to lay them down. If not pick 1 card off top and discard 1 Once you have 51 lay those cards down.( if you so wish) Anyone. once Down. Can play to extend the run or prile on anyone else’s cards that are down. Can swap a card to replace a joker if it’s down providing it is the card it’s been played as. (If it’s your turn to play) A hand/trick has to be 3 cards or more to be able to lay down. eg 4/5/6 same suit. 3 of a kind etc. If you are eventually left with 1 or 2 they can only be played on other tricks. Laid down .(anyone’s) Ace = 1 or 11 2-9 as they are Picture cards = 10 Hope that helps or at least gets some of the memory cells back. Confuses me reading rules back.
two packs, two jokers(woggas) 15 cards each, dealer 16.Woggas count as any card.Need 51 to first get down on table for example 3 picture cards an 3 sevens or 3 eights and 3 nines etc.If someone goes down with a wogga using it as for eg.the 7 of diamonds this wogga can be taken by a person with a 7 of diamonds. You learn by watching and playing as i did in the 70s,80s and 90s.Great days.Oh and by the way dont go down with a wogga if its not safe, you will be crucified.Aim of the game is to get rid of all your cards.
When we get back int mount piror to home games. 2 tables going. Come and watch. Don’t ever go down unless you absolutely have to. ( no, not that meaning Stephen) it could lead to murder around the table in some card schools.
Played Wogga years ago but was a 6 card Don man and loved throwing the jacks out at a £1 a jack 30 years ago to get a game.
Don’t have one particular favourite Marlon Solo Don All hearts Wogga Crib ( cribbage) Snap wit grandkids. Never win that. Used to win against mi own kids. They have to deal with and learn to handle the pain the hard way. Don’t know how to play Poker Bridge
We call that blackjack Put a 2 down next player picks 2 up unless they have a 2, they can put a 2 on top to make next player pick four up & so on 8 miss a go Ace to change suite Black jack pick 7 up or next player can also put a black jack on to make next player pick 14 up, a red jack cancells a black jack though Joker's are wild
My dad used to play wogga, going to get him to show me. I’m going to get the cards out. Can be a great night in and I’m having plenty of those at the moment. One sad thing is many kids under 20 have never really played cards with a deck of cards, many don’t even know the make up of a deck. The closest they have been is solitaire on the iPad.
