The best Head Coach I've worked with. Nothing we ask of him is too much. He greets defeat and success in the same manner. Huge for us in our job. It's tough to head to the dressing room at full time after a defeat and take the gaffer to do his press duties. Val acknowledges us, smiles and immediately comes along EVERY time, win lose or draw. Fully aware that we are part of his team, our club. Not always the case with previous gaffers. I've had laughs, fun with him too. Even today. Little things. He's not as intimidating when you get to know him.
I noticed how he greeted each player when they came off the pitch today when subbed, showing how much he appreciated their hard work. It’s not something every manager does but clearly will do their confidence loads of good, especially the young lads (which is pretty much our whole team). his tactics suffocated them today
Just hope he stays off the radar of other clubs but wins and performances like today will obviously get noticed but fingers crossed we can build something with this fellow.
Nothing much in life scares me. But if he told me to open a door for him, I wouldnt hesitate. The scary barsteward
I'm afraid after the performance against Chelsea, we are definitely on everyone's radar. Live on TV, for everyone to see, we pressed and attacked them from the first whistle
Point no.1, personally prefer the black to the camel. Point no.3 only one off the pitch without a hat and his coat wide open on Thursday Point no.4 His delight when we won yesterday was so good to see Point no.5 Big Val, he s ours so hands off!
I love him. My favourite manager in recent memory and I’ve loved them all since Hill (except Morais).
I think we do have an inferiority complex, and that is a major factor in some of the results we have got. I think they see the amount of money being thrown around, and phrases like #teamslikeBarnsley uttered and it helps breed a team spirit that wants to show the world they are not a "nothing" team and that they can compete with anyone in the league. Long may it continue as well. Both the club and the town have always been at their best when they are the battling underdogs....
Yes, I see your point about it being a factor in some of the results. And I agree that some of our historic highs are as battling underdogs. But my view is that whilst ever anyone believes they are underdogs successes will only ever be sporadic and not sustained. Regular winners have an innate belief that they are capable of winning and the drive to do so. If we aspire to be consistently competing at the top end of the Championship (and hopefully in the PL) we have to have both. VI is providing the drive and I think that bit by bit, step by step he's dismantling the inferiority complex. Being an underdog is endearing but rather than hope I'd rather have a genuine belief that we're good enough to not only compete but excel in this division. And btw I think it'd be good for the Town. There was real pride around the time of our promotion to the PL. Since then the town has suffered some challenges and difficulties, it'd be good for the community imo.
