Heres a suggestion for him and before anyone has a go at me I'm not for one minute saying It excuses this behaviour but given the circumstances maybe Mcclean should think twice about his behaviour too like his Instagram post of him wearing an IRA style black hood while supposedly giving his kids home schooling.
Maybe if he wound his neck in a bit he'd be left alone. Like I said doesn't excuse the behaviour but his actions haven't exactly dampened things down..

No excuse for targeting his kids whatever the perceived provocation. I agree that Insta stuff was a misstep but he was getting abuse way before that. He has his opinions and is entitled to them. What we see with him is actual cancel culture and it’s pretty shameful.

No matter how many times you say you're not excusing it you are blaming him for it. You should be able to post whatever you like online without receiving death threats.

MacLean deserves all the criticism and abuse and slagging off that he gets for his disgusting Instagram post and support of a terror organisation but that abuse is only to a point and delivered in the right way and has to be targeted at his actions and not spill over to his beliefs in general or his religion or nationality and should certainly not involve any threats of violence or anything like that.

To target is wife and kids is wrong on all levels, no excuse whatsoever, but if he's going to put on a balaclava and portray a IRA terrorist whilst teaching is kids then I have no sympathy for the rage aimed at him, his family absolutely. He gets grief for not wearing a poppy, why ? Its his choice, I wear one every year and pay my respects on armistice day, I certainly don't want people wearing one as a token gesture because they feel they have to, what is it, freedom of expression, people moan about footballers taking a knee why? Would i, absolutely not but again I would never lambast anyone for doing so.

No youre right I don't share his beliefs but I also wouldn't force him to accept mine. I personally don't wear a poppy not because I don't support the wearing of them but because I keep losing them so I donate but don't take the poppy. My point was and is if your getting abuse for your beliefs which include death threats is it sensible to ramp things up the way he did with the Instagram and wasn't it even more idiotic to bring his children into it. Personally I couldn't care less whether NI is part of the UK or Eire.

Is racism and racial abuse worse since the proliferation of social media.? The thing is it gives these nasty people anonymity, whereas prior to social media racists where more easily identified. Personally I don't do social media other than this, the BBS. I work on the principle of what other people say about me is none of my business. I appreciate that such an attitude is not the answer. It would be interesting to see the effects of shutting down social media for 6 months. That in itself would not resolve the problem but racists would have to become more identifiable if they wanted to continue with their egregious abuse.

I don't think racism is any worse. I think it's just more widely seen.
I do think racist abuse is worse though because you've got 3 groups of racists, the ones who have no shame and will actually racially abuse people in person (the ones who think they're big hard men), the ones who have racist opinions and will say them but would never dare say them to anyone's face. And the middle ones who want to say it to their face but darent. It's this group that abuse people on social media

he should be allowed to voice his opinions without him or his kids getting death threats. There should be zero qualification or whataboutery on that.

Two kids should have been able to go shopping in Warrington and get home safely but because of the people McClean was glorifying in his Instagram they didn't. I'm not saying the abuse is justified especially that of his children but while not wearing a poppy is his personal choice and right his Instagram was on a completely different level to that.

I think the point he is making is the two girls who were murdered in Warrington were murdered by the people he was bigging up on Instagram, and that is probably one of the reasons he gets abused. I maybe wrong but I think that's SR point

And how is that relevant to Jimmy Viz's point that he should be allowed to voice his opinions without him or his kids getting death threats?

One thing I'd like to point out the wearing of a poppy is an act of remembrance for all that fell serving their country it is not and never as been a glorification of the British Armed forces it does not seek to glorify or justify the wrongful acts of the armed forces or individuals serving in them. It was wrong for the British Army to murder innocent civilians in Ireland just as much as it was wrong for the terrorists on both sides to do so I would state that without a thought whilst wearing a poppy would James McClean whilst wearing his hood.
