Was in a preseason friendly in 1969 (I think!). The reason it's always stuck in my mind was that they had a player called Keith Newton playing for them, a full back. He'd been selected to play for England on a few occasions. It was the first time I'd ever seen a current full England international play against Barnsley. Sadly, we lost the friendly 3-0.
Noel Brotherton was the scourge of our team in my day, by the time our lads had done laughing at his hair he was in on goal
is it really 40 years ago, gosh just read on Wikipedia that Noel became a painter and decorator after retiring and died of a heart attack aged 38,imagine still needing a job after years of pro football, todays players wont need that and how sad to pass so young RIP he was a character of the game
First time i saw us play Blackburn Simon Garner scored against us, and the second time, and the third time................... Or at least it seemed that way.
I know we're at home tonight, but the first time I travelled to see us play Blackburn away was just after my driving test and I naively parked outside someones house on a kind of slip road just up the hill near that main road. Came back to my first parking notice. That was ten hours of Argos Customer Service time I never saw again
I just hope the stick I gave the Rotherham fans over Blackburn getting me a football bet up doesn't come back to bite me
I have the same memories of Blackburn too. Another nemesis was Simon Garner. How many goals did he score against us!!?
Absolutely ludicrous bonce. By all accounts an excellent player though. Sadly he died a few years ago at a very young age of a heart attack.
Note to self...make sure you pick up the right tablet before posting! 1979. Ronnie Glavin winner at Ewood Park.
Lil - I vaguely remember the first time I saw Blackburn they had someone playing for them that seemed extraordinarily short! Must have been 70`s or very early 80`s I think but I remember thinking whoever it was couldn`t possibly play men`s football.
