Toby Sibbick is a very good footballer, who is finally being played in a system and position which suits him. His development over the last 18 months is remarkable. I was a fan of his last season too, but I feared for him after such a long time out of the side. Over the moon that he's a regular again, and actually performing very well.
Its good to see a coach genuinely give everyone a clean slate. I thought Sibbick was the the best technically of all the signings 20 or so months ago and I was dismayed to see Struber isolate and ostracise players like Sibbick. Delighted he’s been given a chance and even more delighted he’s taken it. The additional mobility, nipping in to win the ball, able to bring the ball out of defence, last ditch stretched tackles... Great attributes to bring into the back three.
Seems most think he's in the side for his pace to recover balls over the top, but it looks to me like Sibbick is being asked to do something Helik and Andersen aren't, which is to push into a defensive midfield position on certain triggers. Maybe that's because he has the pace to recover more quickly from a more advanced position, but I suspect that's why he's being favoured to Solbauer. I guess the logic in this is it helps us defend higher up the pitch. Whatever the reason, the lad has been superb since he came back.
The difference is that previously he was being played at full back which left him exposed. He is comfortable in a back three and showing us what he can do.
I think he’s going to be a good un. & like many others, a very likeable kid. If he can sort out his distribution, would be like a young Rio..
I think his performances since his return have been a huge plus point for us. He's even keeping my favourite player, Sollbauer, out of the team on merit. Keep up the good work, Toby.
Agreed mate. I can't believe Toby has come back this good after hardly playing for nearly a year. Well done Toby
Perhaps it was having six months by the sea side that did it! Goodness knows I’d settle for a week right now
