What an amazing drama, our own Shaun Dooley ace as ever. Truly moving and depressing depiction of how backwards the world and the UK were during the AIDS outbreak. Take a bow channel 4. Watched another AIDS related drama with Mark Ruffalo, adapted from a stage play. True story and like It's a sin will have you in bits. Last time I've been so emotional was after watching Bohemian Rhapsody and the final whistle at Brentford last season.
me neither tbh, having lived through it remember all the worry, despair and outright grief for some that went with it
I thought that but then watched it with the wife and it’s compelling stuff - a very interesting watch and excellent drama. Highly recommend it.
Same here, I only watched it cos someone here recommended it and found it really good. Oddly I found some comparisons with the current situation in how it was at first ignored, not discussed, misinformation and so on. Well worth watching.
true, there was some real paranoia at the time, al lot of it lasted well after some folk should have known better
When I was a sweet shy young lad,got refused entry on my morning bus to work, the driver said he saw me put the pound coin near my mouth and he might get aids off it,said I will just drop it in his slot(maybe not the best words to use, thinking back) and he did not need to touch it,he said he may get aids later if he touched it when cashing up,then said I looked suspect and type who probably got aids Looking back can’t believe I just got off the bus, everyone gawking and smirking at me,now I would have dragged him off bus by his neck
Yes I trudged home and told my mum,she took me to work in the car,she rang bus station and gave them hell, next day I was dreading seeing driver again, but was diffferent one, bloke who threw me off must have got a new route
there were some terrible ‘facts’ passed around by word of mouth by those who ‘knew’ though and certainly in the early days it was seen as a death sentence if you got it. Not helped by religious nutters who touted it as Gods punishment on homosexuals!
my dads mate, made a fortune out of the crisis, he started a condom firm, Jiffi condoms ,my dad got a job dipping the flavours onto them, he came home many a night stinking of peppermint here is an advert of theirs from a few years later, very funny and involves football too
totally agree - a brilliant play with some outstanding performances especially Olly Alexander and Keeley Haws.
just looking at this still looks like Callum Britain, bet he is thinking about Chelsea miss with that face
