The model he adopted after relegation from the championship in 2014 (i think) of buying young talented up and coming, hungry players raised some eyebrows at the time and a few including the then manager weren't struck on it. But you would have to say the model also adopted by the new owners is working as well has it has since we were close to the play offs near Xmas time under hecky. In hindsight looking back it was the right approach to take to move the club forward.

There’s nothing wrong with the model, as long as you sell players at the right time, and for the right price. Hopefully that is a lesson we’ve now learned. Another January sale would have scuppered any chance of making the playoffs.

Yes the amount of old players coming to Barnsley for a final payday and having zero effect, finally got him down and change direction

Something had to be done with these players looking for a last pay day promising everything pre contract then offering absolutely nothing once signed .
Cryne tried to explain the passion of the fans before a Forest game and lamented about dead fish eyes after .
Hope we never again are beholden to soulless , passionless, worthless pieces of **** ever again .

Was definitely the right thing to do and its that approach that is a big reason why we are doing so well at the minute.

It's a model that has been adapted by many clubs since then, in one fashion or another.

I think the new owners have probably invested in improving it, and made it work better.

The reason why our current success is no surprise to me however though, is that the current ownership have got into a good habit of offering players 3 and 4 year contracts, and renewing contracts of key players at least 6 months prior to their current deal expiring.

Not only are we signing exciting young players now, we're getting a few of them to stay whilst they're playing their best football.

We had a lot of young players in the past who didn't hit the ground running, who are playing regularly now in the championship. Ryan Tunnicliffe, Dan Crowley and Joe Rothwell are examples I can think of off the top of my head. Another point is, they were only on loan too! The spine of our team is well under contract.

Whilst I said it's no surprise to me that we're doing well, I honestly thought we'd be in and around mid-table by the end of this season, I think I predicted 14th. We're well ahead of where I thought we would be at the start of the season. Hopefully with football returning to some sort of normality, we'll see the budget increase in the summer, so we can build on the foundation we've laid down.

Were probley going to lose mowatt for nothing come summer but we have alot of young talented players on long contracts which is a good thing. Styles is the big one when he eventually leaves we should receive a.club record fee imo

TBF there have been some exceptions - Marlon, Marlon Harewood and Jason, Jason Scotland for example.

    Correct........

In hindsight do we think our best ever run of W games on the trot for 25 years came directly after the transfer window closed..... or just coincidence?!?

Yes definitely, I still think this squad would benefit from some experience in certain positions. An experienced keeper and central midfielder would be ideal.

Exactly this. It hasn't been the buying policy that has been the problem it's been selling at the first opportunity that's done us.

And let's remember, the scorched earth transfer policy of only young players and no loans that many of us argued was nuts hasn't just been tweaked it's been thrown away.

Without Sol we would have been relegated last season and the defence he helped marshal would still be all at sea.

James gave us some much needed experience in the first half of the season. Bike some power and pace in the second half. Both loan players that we weren't going to touch.

They weren't right all along, they changed to what many were arguing.

Recognising what you're doing wrong and recognising the need to tweak to improve performance is a good thing.

One thing I think we all can agree on. Is, the board are learning and listening. The model is working and. they, The board, have to be congratulated on that. All appears to coming to fruition.
As someone said yesterday. The model stays the same. Just step it up.

Many of the sales we did under cryne has short contracts and would have left for nothing so I didn't blame for selling

It was the current board who changed to no loans and no experience last season and they admitted that was a mistake

If we hadn't have sold both center halfs at the same time we would have stayed up comfortably

James was part of a good team in his last loan spell where he was on the winning side 3 times in 18 games. My point was crynes policy of young players was the best way to move the club forward rather than buying older players on much bigger wages.

The one thing wrong with that era was the 2 year contracts and the general contract deals. This lot have sorted that out.

Hourhane winnall and them had 3 years tbf we made a mistake not giving pinnock conor and all those a option for extra year in clubs favour.
