Pretty sure they never said they wanted to become hermits and leave the public eye.

They just said that they wanted to control their own publicity and not have their lives invaded by the media.

Where they are seems pretty perfect for that.

Having had a quick look at the link Brush posted I think it was probably said by Jim, played by Ricky Tomlinson.

Pretty sure they mentioned wanting to raise their children in a much quieter environment away from the public eye. I'm sure you'd agree that creating a global event by appearing on Oprah and signing Netflix deals doesn't really lend itself to that objective.

You are allowed to think that any claims of racism are abhorrent, whilst also questioning the decisions they're making themselves.

There's a difference between doing an interview with a friend (no matter where it gets broadcast etc) and constantly having the media circus following you though. It's pretty clear what they meant when they moved away in my opinion and these claims of hypocrisy are in my opinion in bad faith.

In fact they moved away specifically so they could do things like this and made it very clear at the time that this was their plan. I'm not a fan of the royal family at all, but the abuse they're getting, fuelled by right wing tabloids and cretins like Piers Morgan is disgraceful really.

Certainly takes the attention away from the alleged sex-offender.

I've also just read the BBC summary of it and they are making out as though they were totally skint... sorry but your wife has had good success as an actor and find it hard to believe Harry had nothing in his bank account. That part is just laughable.

I don't have any problem at all with them using their stature in the public domain to make money- all celebrities do it- but lets not kid ourselves that they were one step away from food banks and the Netflix/ Spotify deals were a matter of life or death.

I'm sorry mate but I don't think you're looking at this very objectively - happy to acknowledge some of what you're saying but you're almost shutting down any thought of hypocrisy here when you must get why some people are seeing it? They didn't make it very clear at the time, otherwise it wouldn't have led to these conversations taking place would it? The media circus is following them round even more right now, so isn't that completely against what they wanted? It's only going to get worse, and this is fuelling the fire - regardless of whether you support their motives or not.

As for the friendship with Oprah. If that wasn't a PR machine working overdrive then I don't know what is. Meghan and Oprah had only met once before she was invited to the wedding, and this interview has been three years in the making discussions wise. It's blatantly strategic and not just 'doing an interview with a friend', as was the wedding invitation. It's all part of the LA hyperbole which is being massively underplayed. The city in terms of culture is toxic.

Yep. Clearly this is just a distraction from something. All the distracted people in the comments like any of this matters, even me right now being distracted by the people being distracted. It's a never ending British monarchy cycle.

Whatever the truth, that interview was a naive mistake. The outcome is not good for Harry and Meghan, The Royal Family, or the British People. The only ones who gained anything from it are Oprah and The British Tabloid Press.

It was a controlled interview where they felt comfortable in putting across their point of view after months and months of the gutter press hammering them.

    No issues with it.

I meant “followed by the media circus” in more of a literal way than what’s happening right now. I don’t know about you but I’ve never seen a photo of them since they moved. The he got no idea what clothes Meghan wore yesterday or how many millimetres their kids hair has grown by. If they were still here and “working royals” we’d have been bombarded to j the media with all of that.

I think there’s hypocrisy there in terms of financial issues, they said they wanted to be financially independent and then complain about not getting any financial support, but I don’t think there’s any hypocrisy in terms of privacy.

And even if you’re right about her ‘friendship’ with Oprah (and I have no reason to think you’re not right) a 1 on 1 interview is still a hell of a lot different to being bombarded by paparazzi constantly.

It’s posted every time they’re brought up but just look at how the media treated Meghan compared to Kate. It’s disgraceful and I don’t blame them for a second wanting to get away from that. They were never going to warm to her, they were never going to give her a chance and it’s clearly clouded the general public’s opinion of her.
