Seems like a crazy move as they are all but down, so I would have thought that they would have stuck by him into next season. The fickle finger of fate strikes again
Young Nudger wanking himself into a coma because Hecky is about to take charge of a premier league game for them. In all seriousness though, seems a crazy decision. The amount he has got out of those players is incredible. I know he has spent some money this season on the likes of Ramsdale, Brewster and some others but to get players like Lundstram, Billy Sharp, Fleck (the list could go on and on) as premier league players is something that I don’t think many managers could do. Obviously Big Val could! A lot of teams struggle in the second season and maybe they have been found out a bit but I think I Wilder would have got them back up next season.
Might be something to do with him saying he wanted to move players on but had to wait? Sounds like things have turned sour and he's paid the price.
£120 million spent over last 2 seasons. No players sold for a fee in that time. Put a lot of trust in a lot of the championship players he first went up with but some of his big money signings made have been questionable. Sander Berge £21.5million Lys Mousset £10 million Oli McBurnie £17.5million Callum Robinson £7million Luke Freeman £5million Ben Osborne £3.5million Phil Jagielke signed on a free aged 36 2 years ago Ravel Morrison free Rhyian Brewster £23.5million Aaron Ramsdale £17.5million Oliver Burke £7.6million Jayden Bogle/Max Lowe £7million combined Jack Robinson £1million Jack Rodwell free
I thought Wilder did an amazing job getting them promoted through the divisions as swiftly as he did. And then not just kept them up, but had them in the top half and seemingly challenging the status quo with a really good style of attractive, innovative football. If i were a lower level PL or Champ club keen on playing good football, he'd certainly be top of my list to approach.
Last interview I saw with Wilder he looked and sounded a tired, beaten man. I think the term....by mutual consent....may be accurate for this one.
Not surprised at all to be honest. The only surprise is that it took this long. There is no loyalty in football. There isn't much loyalty in the world nowadays...
I liked Ollie in his time at Oakwell, but I'd never have put him near that price bracket. A couple of million at most. This is one of the reasons that football is fooked.
