According to BBC sport Orlando turned down a 10 million dollar (just under 7.2 million pound) bid from a top six premier league side

I’m not 100% sure on this but I think there could be some rules in MSL about player transfers meaning it would be more if he went to another MSL club - this may be where 20m comes from

suspect the fee to us is contingent on us going up in any event

I've no idea, but to me that seems to undervalue Dike's worth just as much as the $20 million overvalues it.

I actually understand the $20 million more. An agreement in principle but Orlando really don't want to sell so it's a figure they know we can't afford. But I can't understand why they'd let a player with that sort of potential go for a few hundred grand, which is the kind of money we usually pay.

Personally, I think if the emotion of the fact that he plays for us is removed and the stats are looked at prior to coming here, 20,10 or even 5 million looks too high.
We have to remember this is a guy who didn’t play 1 professional game until July 2020.
Some will point to his 1-2 goal ratio for Orlando which is fair enough, but it’s not a great standard in the MLS and he only got his cap because a lot of players pulled out.

He’s done great for us, there is no doubting that.
Just saying if someone said we were signing someone for $2 million with 17 games experience sounds a bit far fetched, let alone eye watering amounts like upto €20 million.

    Don't get me wrong, I think $20
million massively overvalues him. But the way I understood it massively overvaluing him was the point. Almost as good as saying he wasn't for sale. But the usual amount we pay? For a young kid who has just made the national team and has won awards for being one of the best young players in the country? That seems just as unlikely as us paying $20m.

the generosity knows no bounds, but sharing the wife with the lad is a bit far for me, you should maybe just get her to cook him a dinner.

I think he hasn't yet shown he's that good but that's not the same as saying he isn't. I'm more impressed with Morris at the moment but Dike has shown bags of potential - and I guess he's here to realise some of that. He's on the right path.

    Couple of things on that,
International, only because a number of players were unavailable, he wouldn’t have got near if they were.
Awards - young player of month once, came 10th in the Under 22 in October and 3rd in young player of year.

None of that adds upto a lot of proven to me.
My own suspicion is he is clearly identified as potential, Dane and his partner with their connections have picked up on his career and identified him as such.
A deal has been agreed in principal (I would guess at around $2 million) with a huge sell on.
I also think from there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors going on to increase his value.

"With all of this progress, it is easy to forget he is a single year into his professional career"

if you want to go looking for holes im sure you'll find some.Dike is exactly the sort of player we should be be now trying to buy. He isnt the finished article but to get him now is what we need to do, we wont be able to get him in 5 years time id imagine. He comes cheap(ish), hes young, he can improve as a player, he can therefore improve the team...rinse repeat and move on.... DK is the improvement on raw material that advances the plan. we are no longer buying Mike Phenix.

Totally agree, I’m not trying to find holes, just pointing out my reasoning why I don’t believe he is in the €10-€20 million bracket now.

Owt can happen from now til the end of the season, make the decision then. Whilst he has shown some good skills at times at others he has had a first touch like what Victor got crucified for and shooting was a bit dodge before the thunderball.

Give him time lets see over a period.

It's not really a fair comparison though is it? Morris is 25 and has, to put it mildly, had a slow start to his career. He's played most of his 150 games at lower levels and only has 26 goals to show for it. He's playing very well right now, and I know reminds many of us of a certain Ashley Ward, but he's had his entire career and youth career to get to grips with this kind of football.

Dike, at 20 years old, jumped on a plane from Miami during a global pandemic and hit the ground flying in a freezing cold foreign country. All while playing a style of football completely alien to him.

They're both good players but there's a reason one is having massive price tags banded about while the other is going under the radar.
