Where you have to let play go on for offside till it ends Well it looks like its just caused a serious Injury to Wolves Goalkeeper Rui Patricio Salah was offside but goes on and scores then Linesman raises flag Conor Coadys knee clashed with Patricios head and was down around 17minutes Stuff the rules if hes offside Raise flag straight away
It’s daft. You can see why linesman cant follow it properly in any leagues below the Prem. Alright if you have VAR that clear up any controversy but as seen on a number of occasions on Sat they don’t flag for it even when it does occur.
As people have flagged (ho ho ho) it isn't just a Premier League rule. It's stupid regardless, but at least in the PL they have VAR to give you a final and correct decision. In our game at the weekend they just weren't flagging for offsides full stop. It was mental.
It’s a crazy rule, that’s the second serious injury that could’ve been avoided after van dijk. It’s also managed to go full circle and encourage the goal hanging that the offside rule was brought in to discourage.
Don't see what role the linesman plays in the modern premier league game. They might as well not be there. Why not have 2 or 3 refs on the pitch like they do in ice hockey? Just a thought.
I've been saying for ages it's an accident waiting to happen. Well, the accident's just happened. Football, run by a set of idiots
I understand why they do it in the Prem. If the flag went up, play would stop but then VAR could prove that it wasn’t the correct decision, so they let play go on, the player scores and it’s then checked. Absolutely no idea why they do it in our league though. I can’t work out any benefit at all, other than wasting more time. It causes uncertainty in defenders/goalkeepers, when the flag should go up and play should be halted. Any idea what the benefit is supposed to be?
I think the supposed benefit is that it allows play to continue and so it doesn’t slow the game down it’s stupid though, when balanced against the risk of injury and uncertainty
I’m sure the rule hasn’t changed. The second the ball is played forwards, is when the decision is made. If a player is offside at that moment, he’s offside, simple. Perhaps if the margins are tiny and the linesman is unsure, there might be a case for playing on and reviewing after, but playing on in all cases is daft.
The offside rule has always been a source of controversy but it's right off the scale now. Needs a complete rethink - but not by the clowns currently in charge.
Its the tail wagging the dog again, rules being changed to accommodate VAR. Offside was introduced to stop goal-hanging, but the pillocks in blazers have managed to bring it back into the game. Theyve not only wiped out the whole purpose of the rule, but at the same time seriously compromised player safety.
Simple solution. If linesman thinks he's off, then flag as per old rules. If a goal is scored where a linesman has missed offside or ref missed a foul, then check with VAR. But ultimately, just use VAR for penalties and off ball incident that are unseen.
