You’re comparing scenarios that are quite different though. There was no ill will or intentions to attack the war memorial. I just saw that as faux outrage fuelled by right-wing propaganda. Don’t tell me about right from wrong, I’ve stood up and fought for things practically all my working life. I have relatives in the Police force. I have been threatened at knifepoint in the early hours as I’ve rushed out of my home as my car has been broken into. I have been threatened when I’ve raised the alarm when neighbours property has been targeted.
As for tradition and Town, I have been part of a Trade Union organised March through Tarn against Racism and been attacked by local Neanderthals, they were families in that March as well. Fancy eh, Trade Unionists being attacked in Barnsley, no public outrage there. For your information in the Town hall gardens to the right of the War memorial is another memorial to all workers who have lost their lives due to their job.

 

I'll say it once more ..... and I'm getting bored now. I buried my Dad last Thursday. If I got wind folk were destroying graves in Ardsley Crem I'd camp out and do my duty. If anyone disagrees then I'll live with the fact im a better person than you.

Quite possibly the most reactionary post I've seen here. Since the second world war and the end of our empire I think the royal family have as an institution been very inclusive. I've watched some of the recent protests who've found some pretty contrived reasons to vandalise statues. Riddle me this. In Southampton people stood guard at Baden Powells statue. He wasn't forceful enough in condemning concentration camps.BUT... the protesters walked past a Hugo boss store. Who was Hugo boss?? A founder member of the nazi party. Designed the ss uniform worn in every concentration camp and used slave labour to produce it. Look on the Hugo boss website. Anthony Joshua is described as a Hugo boss man through and through. You couldn't make this **** up. What a big fat hypocrite. Pay him the money and he'll turn a blind eye. But hey, let's destroy our heritage cos they didn't quite jump up and down enough in 1930.

And... My grandad spent 4 years abroad fighting the Nazis. Didn't see his wife, baby daughter or blighty for four years, stuck behind enemy lines in North Africa with the long range desert group. Was diagnosed in 1987 (eventually) with PTSD. He described to me asking his commanding officer if he could shoot his best friend as an act of mercy whose stomach had been blown out in a mortar attack. Ask him if he'd like a Hugo boss t shirt endorsed by Anthony Joshua??

 

Protesting against racism is/was not a result of a faux claims, The EDL had set up a stall in Barnsley and spreading their bile. I was singled out because I wore a BFC shirt, this was because people on that stall had been wearing BFC shirts. They shouted at me and warned me about going into pubs etc. I had not heard of a single threat to the war memorial in TRn.

 

Shut up. I was there with old soldiers, families, young kids and folk who wanted to stand in front of our towns monument after loads of vandalism and destruction of monuments around the country.

I'll meet you to discuss the "gob off" and "racist slurs" ....... it was a stand against folk who were rampaging around the country destroying statues. I'll make no excuse for supporting .......

Unfortunately, there are many stories like these, My Grandad also fought in the North Africa Campaign, he was killed in action in Northern Italy. My dad was 9 years old. My grandad came from a mining family and spent time down the pit. My dad was a miner as was myself and 2 elder brothers. I can still see the anger and tears on my dad’s face when Margaret Thatcher called the Miners ‘ The enemy within’

I've said it now on numerous occasions..... there was no direct threat on the monument outside town hall. It was a show of strength against folk destroying monuments in the country. It happenened all over.

I've no affiliation to EDL or any other organisations as folk on here will vouch for. I'm just a nice blowk who wants to do the right thing....
