https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/ex-huddersfield-town-fc-star-20228726 One of my early favourites with the amount of goals he scored. It's tough enough having one addiction, but he's managed to overcome three. Glad he's in a better place these days. His charity will do so much good for others. He won't be the last Football player to struggle to cope in retirement when they have spent the best part of their life under daily structure with training, eating right etc.
One of my favourites too. What I don't get is why people stop what they're doing? I'm a gambler and heavy drinker, over weight too. I like having a decent drink and bet regularly. I've no intention of stopping either. Why is everything that isn't vegan or healthy classed as a vice. You only have to look at the grimmace on peoples faces when you tell them you bet or drink. There's a stigma around it. No wonder gamblers and drinkers turn into addicts. I wanted help for mental health issues and was told my issues were down to drinking when i described my lifestyle. The doctor didn't even listen to my problem after. Just said my anxiety and panic attack was down to alcohol. The systems crap. That said assuming people are broken and need fixing is just as bad too.
Gambling and drinking are fine in moderation. It's when you can't function without them that it becomes an addiction. And alcohol is well known to impact on your mental health.
I've always thought he was much underrated was Payton. He knew where the net was and helped the club out when it needed help. I don't think he was at his peak here either but still looked like scoring whenever he was in the box. Really good fit for Barnsley at that time.
Be good if we got to see an interview with him in a future matchday programme to talk about his time with us, his struggles and his charity. We've heard interviews from some former players loads of times repeating the same stories so at least Andy would have something different to share.
Can remember him v Huddersfield in the 2nd leg of the league cup. They’d also beaten us in the league and were 2-0 up after the first leg. We beat them 3-0 in the return leg and I think Payton scored them all.
I liked Payton a lot, fantastic pace and seemed able to pop up with headers too, even though he wasn't very tall. I thought the partnership he formed with Liddell was really enjoyable to watch, great movement from two small players and clever use of dummies and stepovers to allow the other to get into goal scoring positions.
We've been in touch with him. 14 months since last one....... issue 9 was ready to print then BOOM! Need a proper crowd to do another or it won't cover printing costs.
Always looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders - could explain why. Glad he's turned himself around
Bet he was gutted to be sold just before our promotion season. It's a shame he missed out on being part of it.
