As much as I think Helik, Styles, Mowatt are quality I don't think ( if we didn't go up) that we would lose them to a PL team, probably to a relegated club from the PL or to a team you would expect to be around the top 6 next season, tbf even if we don't go up i hope they stay and we move on the ones out on loan and possibly Chaplin
Yes, I'd missed that. The extension still gives him 2 +1 years in the summer, so he's probably at his optimal time to sell unless we can entice him onto a better deal and extend a bit longer.
Don't disagree. But the overall wage budget only increases if the regularly daily revenue increases not just the bank balance. We won't suddenly add 20% to the wage bill but we would, hopefully, reinvest at a higher calibre of player than we have in the past. I think our model relies on striking whilst the iron is hot in terms of sales. Kitching was obviously (to me) a layer brought in for the departure of one CB, the emergence of Sibbick secures another position, so it would be feasible that we're only looking for one regular CB plus another CB to layer, possibly two. But if you lose the Head Coach you might no longer play three at the back and then who knows what you need! All speculation regardless, but I'm expecting to see many move on purely based on how they've performed this season which has been remarkable.
Me too. I've embraced it. Such is my goodwill towards the club after such a great season and good recruitment I'd back them to get in decent replacements anyway should players move on to bigger and better things. They proved with Woodrow listening to offers whilst negotiating his contract they have the resolve to refuse bids on players they want to keep.
To play Devil's Advocate for a moment, it wouldn't surprise me if we got promoted if we withdrew the Mowatt contract offer so he had to stay in the Championship and missed out from dragging his heels so long. We would get offered all sorts of players we won't have thought we stood a chance of getting and it wouldn't be the first time we've withdrawn contract offers.
I just hope they don't get the balance wrong, and end up deep in a relegation mire again. If that happens, then the idea of growing the club by developing players just becomes an idea of developing players, but not the club. A spine of Andersen, Styles / Palmer, Woodrow / Morris would be reasonable enough. As for Sollbauer and Helik, my suspicion is that Sol is the highest earner out of the CBs, so if a bid came in for him, it would make sense to accept. If that's the case, offer Sol's place in the wage structure to Helik, if he turns it down then hold out for a good price for him.
Playing devil's advocate, when Helik suddenly becomes our top earner what do you do to the other players who want a pay rise as well? How do you throw this money at wages, knowing you'll need to sign players to the squad as well that are capable of stepping in, when the revenue isn't increasing? I'd hate to be 95% of the teams in the championship where wages alone represent 120%+ of their revenue. That's our challenge and one of the biggest hurdles we have to overcome as a sustainably run football - it's great being able to afford a £2 million player but that player comes with wage expectations out of sync with what we can afford.
The thing with Mowatt is that come the summer he’s on a free, so his new club can use the fee they’re not paying to hike up his wages.
I didn't say make him top earner. I said, if Sollbauer is the highest earning defender and we sell him, then that slot within the existing structure should be offered to Helik because he is our most important defender. It would mean the wage structure isn't affected, and the reason for rewarding the player the contract is obvious. I never really understand this idea that everyone will want to match the top earner. There will always be someone that earns more than others, as long as the player's salary aligns with the role / importance to the team, it's not an issue.
And someone coming in for £2 million plus will expect to be one of, if not the, most important player in the team on the highest wages. It's why we've been stung on wage demands before over the last couple of years. I'm not signing for Barnsley for £2 million to be the second best striker, as an example. I think Helik's performances, alongside the interest being shown and the Poland call up, would likely put his demands ahead of just getting what Soll is on. Any contract negotiation puts him beyond that figure.
Same goes for us though. A replacement would cost >£1m plus similar wages, so we can offer a signing on fee of £1m plus the same wages and he’s overall earning more than our wage ceiling, but without technically breaking it. £1m sign on for a 3 yr contract is £6k a week.
If we go up I have to say I don't think Mowatt will be good enough. If we don't he'll leave for another Championship club. If we don't go up I really can't see Ismael still being here next season. Only way to tempt Dike is to go up. Let's hope we go up.
I have read this thread & cannot believe the amount of negativity it has developed , the Op asked a simple question about when Dike"s loan is due to come to & end , a simple question , however I have then read about our coach leaving , captain leaving . Brittain , Styles & Morris going with Anderson , Helick , Solbaur & Styles thrown in for good measure , I then read some on here advocating we sell our top goal scorer Woodrow & of course moving on our players who are out on loan ,plus fringe players like Victor & Chaplin, now I know there is still a deep mistrust by some of our owners but last close season we sold Jacob Brown to my knowledge & nothing much more, so can someone please explain to me how we can go from a simple question about Dike to all this , only asking for a friend !
I don't think we would cut off our nose to spite our face in this instant. Alex has been totally professional during his time with us.
But how many players do you think could make the step up? Mowatt has been our best player for me this season with helik and Britain followed closely. Be interesting to see which players would make the step up.
I haven't spoken negatively about any of those players leaving. And let's be honest, on some of the names you've mentioned I'm happy to say they've come from me. It's just a discussion more than anything and exactly the one we'd be having down the pub and going back and forth about potential scenarios. No criticism of the club or the owners, just the stark reality that our players and gaffer will be in high demand this Summer. If a club like ours performs well that demand just naturally follows.
If we offer what we can, and he turns it down, then fair enough. But either keep hold of him, or sell if a very good bid comes in. Plus if we sell him, we have to keep hold of Mads. Having to replace 5 players in a year isn’t a sustainable model, as every signing is a gamble. Exactly. I’d much rather be in the pub though!
I have not replied to any individual, including yourself , I have reflected on the thread about Dike & his loan spell which turned into a potential mass exodus of our players & reading the whole thread it appears in my opinion that there is a lot of negativity , interestingly you point out that there has been no criticism of our owners , I wonder if that would be the case if this potential mas exodus became a reality , they would get crucified
