Saw this on Twitter... not sure about it’s truthfulness, and Swansea and Preston should be switched... but interesting nonetheless.
If it means all time "2nd Tier" football, then it looks reasonable. "The Championship" league has only been going about 15 years, so no way can these team have accrued that many points in that time
It is a myth anyway. We've spent more time in Division 2 than any other team. Just makes other teams' fans sound silly when they mention us being small, or "back to where we belong" with league one
Its true that we've played more games at this level than any other club, its unlikely that will ever change as we're quoted in the World Football table as being 698 games ahead of Leicester in second place. With that many more games played its no wonder we've accrued most points - but suffice to say our record in that table is 3235 played with 1097 wins, 811 draws and 1327 losses and a goal difference of -647! So yes, we're by no means the best there's ever been at this level but we've been here longer than anyone else by a million miles so there's no disputing we belong here.
I believe we are fourth bottom (62nd) of the all time top flight league table. Only Glossop North End, Leyton Orient and Swindon are below us. Hope we can do something about that next season
I saw something a year ago online somewhere that tried working out a proper league table over the history of English football and it had us 18th in the second tier overall. Which seemed a pretty fair reflection of us.
I reckon our longevity in the Championship/Div 2/Tier 2 is a proud record to hold. Especially when you consider the size of our town
I used to look at it that way. I don't anymore. I think it makes us look a laughing stock. One season in the topflight for a club our size is pathetic and massive mismanagement or underachievement.
