This is happening in the US with a handful of breweries. Until the retailers commit to shelf space then a brewery won't commit to buying the machinery and cans to make it happen. Will the retailers commit to shelf space on a format that means the consumer spends less? Unlikely. I'm with you though. I've never understood why 440ml cans have higher abvs but people LOVE THEM so much. It's the fastest growing format in Supermarkets UK wide. It's only going to see more beers in 440ml than less.
I knew that was the case for beer generally, but didn't know the floor at which point it became exempt. I'm not sure I could justify paying over £5 for AF beer though.
I had a beer over Christmas (i think it might have been a guest collab from Northern Monks patrons) that was the first one I'd seen that emblazoned the units on the can rather than tucked away in the smallish print. I think it was around 7.4. It was a 14% one, but still, 440ml of that, not good. Even if they just canned in the smaller 330ml(ish) cans it would be a start.
My local craft brewery puts its imperial stouts and triple IPA's in 330ml cans. And, very weirdly, its alco-free and micro (3%) IPA's! Though they still put their DIPA's in the standard half litre, which is a bit much. They serve all their beers in 400ml glasses in the taproom, which I reckon is a perfect serving for a craft ale. I'm really not a fan of pints these days, it's far too much. Yet a half pint seems like two gulps and it's gone!
She’s still very much alive getting ready to put her stamp all over my new house.! Another lockdown please Boris.?
Not much currently. I like drinking but in a pub (not that I did that all that much even before the pandemic). I've never really been into drinking at home (on my own). My Mrs doesn't drink. That said, I have had the occasional beer or two at home in the last year and do now make sure I have a few in the fridge but often weeks do go by without any touching my lips. Fancy one now I'm talking about it though.
Did 5 months off last year without a drop. Not had a drop since New Year’s Eve. I don’t drink midweek at all. When the world opens back up im every other Saturday and drink 7/8 pints and a few spirits. I like to go out and enjoy myself and alcohol is a by product I never really get an urge for a drink more an urge to socialise.
my missus says i drink too much, guessing she's right looking at our brown wheely bin, but i like a few lagers after work, and been rushed off my feet walking relentlessly for 18 months i think i deserve it but know my body is getting old
haha. I'm fairly good at drinking in a pub There's just not been many opportunities for the last year.
Aw, mate. That photo I got of Hicksy, when he passed out at the pub in Waterloo. After the open top bus dropped us back from the cup semi at Wembley. He hates that photo, best not posting it.
Me too. Alcohol accentuates my mood, so having a drink when I'm not in a good place mentally is never going to end well. Fortunately if I'm feeling pissed off with the world I don't feel like drinking anyway. Maybe it's some sort of inbuilt defence mechanism.
Open topped bus?! If I remember correctly, that day was probably the coldest April day in the history of the universe!
Absolutely love a drink but more so when I go out, Saturdays for football (when we could go), I seem to drink more occasionally now than ever but only 1 or 2 and that’s not often, drinking and getting drunk in the house dosent really bother me, id rather be out socialising. Can easily go a month without touching a drop and quite happy to drink 0%. I’ve seen first hand what too much drink does and it’s devastating and to some extent scarred me, I find myself now quite critical of others when I see my mates post countless photos on various WhatsApp groups ‘bars open’ ‘am gasping’ etc......a just think what’s point but it’s each to there I suppose, I have a teenage daughter who will be sampling no doubt in coming months/year and it worries me if I’m honest. Alcohol is great when respected, when not respected it’s the devil imo!
I haven’t bothered since well before Xmas. 5 months since having covid and just like most food, beer, wine and shorts taste really bad. Might be that I knock it on the head completely.
