I am a massive fan of Alex Mowatt and regard him as our most important player, but I was very nervous when I saw he was about to take yesterday's penalty. Thank goodness that he managed to score, but hardly in a convincing manner. Who should take any future penalties, if Woodrow is not on the pitch? I would probably go for Morris or Dike.
I’d go for Styles or Brittain. Composed and good at other dead ball situations. I don’t know if Morris or Dike are penalty takers.
Styles. But credit to anyone willing to step up. Perhaps Alex is the most confident. (I watched on the replay. I don’t take the risk of watching em live) . But it looked a weak attempt.
Fully expected it to be Mowatt. If we’re trusting him to take almost all our free kicks from 25 yards out then we should be confident from 12. Better hit penalties get saved so at least he scored.
personally think every footballer at championship level should be able to take a penalty with little fuss
I'd have been nervous regardless of who was taking it, cos everyone looked like they were laikin' with stripper shoes on yesterday.
Helik looks like the kind of guy who could score from the spot by drilling it as hard as possible at the keeper and bursting the net
Imho Mowatt played mind games and won (just). He gambled on the keeper going one way or the other and hit it straight down the middle. If the keeper had dived a little bit stronger we'd be calling Mowatt a genius. Definitely got the ballocks for the job which is why he's captain.
I thought it should have been Morris or DK, but was ok with Mowatt taking it. Only saw it on the replay. Bit lucky.
I like the straight down the middle technique because it usually works, although it didn’t for Jutkiewicz yesterday because the Swansea keeper stood his ground and it hit him so hard he must have a heck of a bruise today. Mowatt’s effort had a lot of luck though and if the keeper had managed to keep his legs together he would have stopped it. The ball needs to be hit several feet off the ground to stand a great chance of going in. I don’t like the low shots that just about beat the keeper’s grasp
He scored didn't he? I'm sure Alex has more than one type of penalty in his locker. And whilst the one he took yesterday wasn't the most comfortable to watch, it did the job.
I know that its not all about which position you play. It's about confidence, attitude, responsibility etc. But as a striker you''ve got to question yourself if you're not on top of the list to take pens. Imagine Cauleys goals return this 'succesful' season without his (excellent by the way) penalty goals. It's a skill on its own. More pressure than a snap shot in open play......... just look at Jouas miss yesterday. But as a striker over your 10-15 year career you could on average bag 50 odd goals. It's always baffled me. Only thing I can think is AM will be almost guaranteed to be on the pitch 90 mins but our forwards aren't.
I’d keep Mowatt on them but make sure he keeps practicing them as Woodrow’s only playing just over half the games so we need our back up to be used to scoring them
For me it would be DK with a run up from the half way line. If its anything like when we were kids goalie's gonna turn his back or run out of the goal.
