Chaplin, Freezer & Victor all have a part to play. Even if it’s defending a lead from the front & chasing down tiring defences. :)

The way we press & play dictates Vals rotation of his forwards , I think he will hold one of his big guns back to take advantage of tiring opposition defenders , defenders who have been pressed , harassed & ran ragged because of the energy of all his forwards , they all contribute to the plan & I do not think he will use his best 3 to do all the spade work & then bring his support act on to finish the job , I think he perms them with the view of holding on to at least one game changer if not two, to go for gold when the game gets stretched & we can take advantage , we have scored a lot of late goals & that is not down to good luck its more down to good game management & I do not think he will risk burning his best 3 out in the first hour , I think he will stick to his tactics which have served him well

You may be correct, but Chaplin is approaching 100 Championship appearances. That doesn’t suggest he is League One standard.

I think a significant part of our strategy is to wear the opposition defence down over the first two thirds of the game. Then when the defence slows down due to fatigue, one of our better three strikers, usually Morris, takes the field fresh and hence is extremely effective against a slower defence.

I thus don't expect we will see all three of our best strikers in the starting lineup.

Have to agree. The Iceman or Victor will probably start, run their blood to water, only to be replaced. Why change a winning formula?

There's 2 commonly stated points by many fans on this forum that I struggle with.

1, we should start with our best 3 strikers

2, we should play Styles in the middle and Williams as wing back

The first, I can see is illogical, it helps us massively to put on some fresh legs with real talent against the defenders that have been worn down. And that simple view is obviously shared by big Val.

The second, I don't understand at all whether it's brilliant or nonsense, it might make sense, but big Val clearly doesn't think there's any merit in it. But it's always stated as if it's such an obvious idea it needs no explanation.

When did Styles last start a game in the middle of the park?

But there’s 30 posts a week suggesting he should. And that’s why I’m puzzled

I’d start with Chaplin as opposed to the others for same reasoning. Much of a muchness though

Valerien's very first home game against QPR, had Styles in the middle with Mowatt. Oduor and Brittan wide men. He brought Matty James on at HT for Odour, pushed Styles out wide

Imagine saying this about a young lad you’re supposed to be supporting, in a location where there’s a decent chance that he will see it.

At a time when mental health is at an all time low and another Barnsley player has recently bravely publicised his own troubles and a former player has just committed suicide.

There’s people on this forum who would like us to revert to 4-4-2 with a big man and little man striker combo. Game’s changed massively since then and our system is working wonderfully. Long may it continue.

I see that's the plan. But Morris has come on at half time, with us a goal down in the last two home games. Will Boro's defence tire enough for it to work tomorrow, having not played since Monday? Will Frieser / Chaplin / Victor be good enough to take any chances they get, because if Boro score first they'll just try to shut up shop and be difficult to break down.

What happens if the opposition bring on 3 fresh defenders when Barnsley FC bring on 3 forwards in the second half of the match?
