Wonder if/when the west stand is done they will reinstate the tunnel on the half way line as they could redevelop the changing rooms etc there? Never really like them coming out at the far end next to the away fans. They always said they would mirror the east stand but be nice to have the tunnel there again.
Yes I hope with a new West Stand they would go back to coming out there surrounded by our own fans, where the players would hear the noise from the stand from the dressing room. It never did make sense to come out for home games beside the away end, where our own fans will be drowned out in the dressing room.
The West Stand should be razed to the ground. Aside from sentimental value to Barnsley fans of a certain age it has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I agree about the tunnel though, whatever stand is built in it's place should have a central tunnel with dugouts either side.
Said it before and I will keep on saying it ........ we need do no more with the West Stand above what Burnley did with Turf Moor. Very similar ground, similar size town and historically similar attendances. Their main stand is almost identical to ours, and when they got rid of the old stand opposite, they went functional rather than overboard. And still room for a tunnel. I agree there is something 'right' about players coming out of the West Stand tunnel with Reds fans either side. It's do-able. Ours in comparison. Their "West Stand" can't have broken the bank, it is hardly iconic, and it won't win architectural awards, but it is no more than we require and would probably be lower in height than the current setup. And we could keep the red wall.
These posts do my head in. It's like wanting to put a 25k extension on your house when you can't either (a) afford it (b) your landlord won't allow it (c) you don't really need it (d) rather spend the coin on folk who live inside (e) see a b c and d.
I wonder if there are any clubs whose fans are so obsessed with their ground which they have historically been unable to get close to filling?
I guess because there is a strong chance we could be playing in the prem next season it's prompting folk to scrutinize the development of the health &safety nightmare/eyesore/waste of prime land, that is the West Stand.
If we charted the conversations about ground development, I suspect we average about one a fortnight dating back to when Noah was but a boy.
I don’t care what they do with the west stand, but I don’t think it’s possible to mirror the east stand. The ground sits‘Katy cornered’ in relation to Grove St, and I reckon at the far end, the back of an East stand clone would be in the back gardens of the houses opposite.
On occasion I'd walk round from one side of the west stand to the other at half time. Some of the verbal comments coming from the open windows of the dressing room turned the air blue slightly shall we say. Lol.
Think your way off there, the current footprint of the West stand is very similar to the East stand. The height might be a problem though, given the light that would be lost to those houses.
Yes, I might be, it was just that the E Stand looks massive and the W Stand is very close to the boundary wall. I was guessing!
