Anyone any recommendations? I've been using Specsavers for the last few years, and although their glasses are pretty good, and I can get free Reaction lenses, I just wondered if there is anyone better in town. I will also need a sight test too.

I always use Specsavers for the eye test as there is no one better in my opinion. But I get my glasses from Glasses Direct as the difference in price is 50% cheaper

Are they an online store mate? Cost isn't a huge factor for me really as I get most of it back from Westfield Health, but I would certainly consider it.

unless you have a simple prescription avoid specsavers and online glasses manufacturer. Admittedly my prescription is quite complex but after 2 years of headaches and messing about with specsavers opticians I went to a well recommended independent, and boom all the issues sorted, and an optician totally baffled by the previous prescription

My opticians are the £ shop, paid daft money at Asda and others for glasses over the years then a couple of years back I broke my class's in the market and I'm as blind as a bat at short distances without glasses so I went to the £ shop just to carry on shopping bought a pair and they were as good as any I have bought for big money they may not last as long because they are made of plastic but for a chuffing £, wearing a pair nar,

The funny thing is that despite me using them the last 6 years or so, I did have a dodgy experience 4 years ago and my glasses weren't right. My dad, brother in law and another family member all had similar problems within a few months of each other too. Have to say it did put me off. Very tempted to try Asda.

In my view Specsavers (And Optical Express) are shops that happen to sell glasses and do some tests. I've been using specsavers for a few years because I get a free test via work. However, after the last few visits I'm going to a proper optician next time.

To answer your question, I used to use, and had no issues with Norwood and Perrin.

Personally I prefer to support local business rather than the corporates. We use McCormack's in Hemsworth and cannot speak highly enough of them. All the town centre ones I've been to seem to know how to charge in comparison. However, last year I broke my prescription safety glasses for work and needed replacements ASAP. Chris Raison was recommended and duly sorted me out within hours (simple prescription thankfully). Not cheap but the only one who stepped up after much ringing round. So there's my 2x2p worth.

Anybody who’s met Mrs Tonjy will know that advice on finding a good optician is way too late for me!
