I think it adds a lot - especially for kids. I remember when my nephews were younger we went home and they were singing Don't Stop me Now constantly back when that was goal music.

Try "Trampled Underfoot", it's so good that it even found it's way on to a @John Peachy mix.

We put that to fans in an online vote five years ago, and over 60% said get rid. So we did. I was chuffed. I can't stomach it, personally.

I also, personally, would love to shift Cocoon (not Timerider) a bit further back, and have new entrance music like I said earlier. But that was put to fans (before my time), after it'd been removed for a while (under Keith Hill I believe) and the majority wanted Cocoon reinstating.

    Like Brexit I suppose.

I know I remember the goal music poll. I remember saying the same thing then - that I think it adds a lot for kids and could well be something that entices more kids to come to Oakwell and stay for the long haul. And that it should stay for that reason - even if 60% of the small % of fans that actually voted said otherwise.

The problem you have is if you were to try and replace it... what with? What would have that level of unanimous support? So 40% may love it and want to retain it, 60% may say, meh, yeah, I suppose i'd like something better. That 60% then fractures into thousands (depending on the size of your polled audience) and you have nothing that gets close to what Cocoon would poll.

But at the same time, when it was first launched, it wasn't especially liked at first (even though it replaced the god awful clapping song). It's just built up what it evokes for some because of memories.

For me, the opening day of the 97/8 season against West Ham. A vivid green pitch, premiership flag over the west stand. A full ground of nervous hope as kick off approached.... then timerider/cocoon kicked in. I've never been, nor never will be prouder than that moment. And Timerider played its part in that.

Keep it for me. Been hearing it at home matches for almost as long as I've been attending. If we start wanting to get rid of anything that "hasn't aged well", then we'll have to ban half the supporters. Joke. I get the desire to have something more uplifting or intimidating (and there's plenty to choose from) but tradition in this case trumps that for me. Anything else would just look, or rather, sound as though we are trying too hard to be uplifting/intimidating.

I reckon that the folk who want to keep Timerider are suffering from a peculiar form of Stockholm Syndrome.

Actually, that's an excellent tune by Blink 182, we could use that instead of Timerider.

When Cocoon first started being used it was a case of "Oh, they're using the theme to Hitman & Her". Over time, it's become our Oakwell entrance song, and I'd hate for it to go now.

It replaced the "Clap Clap Song", linked below. This wasn't particularly hated at the time, and did used to get people clapping along, but always in a slightly embarrassed way. I'm glad it was replaced. To me, the use of Cocoon is synonymous with the most successful period in our history. I loved hearing it played at Wembley, for example. Hearing the players walk out to it when watching on iFollow still triggers that same pre-game anticipation.

It might be a bit cheesey these days, but it's undoubtedly become a part of the Oakwell experience and there are far worse songs being used by other clubs. I'd be fuming if it was ever replaced.

    We changed it before.

I seem to remember us coming out to Heroes by David Bowie. Now nobody is going to try to claim that Cocoon by Timerider is of equal musical merit to Heroes by Bowie, or Kashmir by Led Zep, or most other suggestions.

But changing it doesn’t work. I have only been attending since the early to mid nineties, but it has (almost) always been there. I missed it when it changed and thought it had to be brought back.

Cocoon is a dated, lowish quality electropop recording from the late eighties. The theme tune to The Hitman and Her. But for over thirty years it has been pretty exclusively Barnsley FCs walkout music. There’s kids and even younger adults have absolutely no clue that it’s anything but our walk on music or that it was ever anything else.

Things change, but you won’t find a concensus of opinion that any one tune is a better bet.

You may get half or a few more saying they want to replace it, but that half won’t all agree on a replacement. If whitey or anyone else from the club gave us a shortlist of six, with cocoon included, cocoon would win it comfortably.

It is naff, but no more so than z cars or that Going Home by mark knopfler that Newcastle use. It’s naff, but it’s ours. It’s unique, and has to stay.

I have to agree with this. 45 years later and they're still just as shat as they were in their heyday.

Cant stand it, more cheesier than cheese, makes my toes curl and my teeth itch, a bit like the west stand, good for its time but as gone by its " best before" date

Exactly this. It's horrible music, but it's our music. It's so evocative of Oakwell and various memories.

No point trying to change to something cooler or 'better', because consensus on what that is won't be found, and opinions will change over time anyway.

Stick with what we've got, and embrace it!
