I think this might be the funniest thing I've ever read on this board. You don't know what you've got til it's gone, eh?
If Timerider were to be replaced (and I’m not in favour of its being replaced or moved to earlier ) with a rock song only a Saxon track should be considered, Never Surrender would be my preference
I’d keep fanfare then Timerider for the walk on but deffo have that for the precursor when the younguns start getting in position with the flags .
I don’t expect agreement from a single soul. But personally if it had to be changed, I’d give this a go. Positive it would sound incredible in a stadium cranked up. Released in the summer of 97 when anticipation was at fever pitch for the coming season in the top flight. Evocative of that era to me. Not a dance music nutter by any stretch. But this one just gets me every time. Like I say, probably met with derision if acknowledged at all, but since others are putting their suggestions forward, then this is mine .
Since this is a non-political thread I'll add my three 'apeth... I can only assume the OP was not at the old Wembley Stadium for the Playoff final with Ipswich. When Timerider started I, ...ahem... coincidentally got ...err.......something in my eyes that made them water copiously. I am sure many felt a surge of pride and 'belonging' when it came blasting out of the stadium PA It was the same through the entire Premiership season when the players emerged from the tunnel at Oakwell. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and heightened the anticipation (albeit the effect was often lessened with poor timing). Surely it is not rocket science for someone in the tunnel with a walky-talky to tell the announcer when they are about to emerge so he/she can hit the play button! Edit: Someone mentioned West Ham ...'I'm forever blowing bubbles' It was first published in 1919!!
I did quite like Sash in my Ibiza clubbing days, but Ecuador wasn't top of my list. This thread just shows how incredibly difficult it would be to agree on change. We've old grandads metal to Ibiza 90's. And thats before you consider a younger generation coming through. It would either take a very brave subjective punt from the club to say, we're going with something new and this is what we think works best, or they just have to accept that it suits us best and if a red brick wall is coveted as essential BFC, then so is Cocoon.
Agree. Said earlier my preference is to keep cocoon. Sure that with much bigger crowds than we’ve been used to for 20 years, it would come into its own again.
Not a great fan of Timerider. Bearing in mind this seasons style of playing and Big Val's persona I'd like us to come out to Tom Petty's "I won't Back Down".
There is something about familiarity. Change is good, and I'm a big advocate of it. But often change can be done for the sake of it and what you end up with is something newer, but dilutes from what went before. Hearing TimeRider is that familiar friend. I can be away from Oakwell for years. But as soon as I walk up to the ground, its a trip I've done many hundreds of time before. Pilgrimage. That tune, tells me the players are about to emerge and to get ready for what comes next. Even though I've tonnes of songs I like and listen to, none can do what that tune does.
I'm seeing a trend emerge... Ecuador aside... the songs in the running are most tracks on a Fathers Day compilation album ;-)
If anything were to replace it I'd like "The House That Heaven Built", given the occupation of our founder I think it'd be appropriate. The Canuncks use it in the NHL and it works well. That said, I don't think I could bear to lose Cocoon. It takes me straight back to 97. For goal music we should play the refrain from Everlong - "And I wonder / When I sing along with you / If everything could ever feel this real forever / If anything could ever be this good again".
Agree with this sentiment 100%. If we did get rid of it, what ever replaced it should mean just as much to the fans and town. I'm not really up for some generic club banger.
If it's not in at Casa then I'm not getting it. I suppose if Egs has I might go there cos the bird behind the counter is pretty fit.
The Fanfare / Cocoon music definitely added to the atmosphere during the promotion / Prem season. The Fanfare intro got a cheer as everyone realised the teams were about to come out, then everybody would be clapping to Cocoon and then a crescendo as the teams actually came out. With a decent crowd and the right timing, it was ideal. Unfortunately, as the years went on, it seemed to start too early, and would fizzle out before the teams came out. Mustn't have factored in the extra distance to the new changing rooms!
I think you’re mistaking things you like as being the same as the things other people like. I read the opening post and thought ‘who’s Zep?’ and then when I googled the song title I saw it said by Led Zeppelin who I have heard of but have no idea what any of their songs are. I probably have heard of it if I listen to it but it clearly hasn’t stuck with me. I can’t see it sticking with many people under the age of 40 and certainly no one born this century.
