Problem is that we would be replacing Styles and Mowatt, should he leave, with lesser players that may or may not be able to step up. Whilst I appreciate that we have successfully recruited on the majority of lower league signings, we have also had some players that have found the step up very difficult, and all of them are out on loan at the moment or had their contracts ended. We would also still need cover for Jordan and as much as I like Jordan, he is not as talented as Styles.

 

I think you’re forgetting that we’re Barnsley. We’ll never sell a player for £8 million, let alone £24 million.

That’s the starting price; it’s the finishing price we’re interested in. I reckon we’d sell for £3-4 million, because that’s what we do.

 

Exactly, and we would be extremely lucky to get another player like Styles for that amount. To lose Styles and Mowatt at the same time would be a huge void to fill.

 

I agree but the mowatt situation was always going to happen unless we had cashed in in January, I think if we go up mowatt will stay if not he will leave ive almost resigned myself to that. He has been good for us under stendel, struber and now val. And well worth the 500k we paid.
With styles I've said all season dont get too attached he is still only 20 which is hard to belive for a lad so talented. Were barnsley if we don't go up mowatt will leave for bigger money and someone will pay decent money for styles the vultures are already circling just how it is unfortunately.
I agree with you about williams he isn't as talented but still only young and has come on alot since he 1st came. I trust the recruitment team to get it right yes some signings haven't made the step up but every signing is a gamble.

If Styles leaves and Mowatt doesn't sign we have Kane, Palmer and Ritzcracker and Christie-Davies to come back from their loan spells. It's not ideal but sometimes you have to show faith in the squad.
