I a m a fan of alex its been said on here by some posters if we dont get promoted he will go elsewhere some have even suggested that some premier clubs may bid for him his he good aenough for the prem my personal opinion is no we had a player in conner who went to the prem he now seems surplus to requirements at villa if conner cant make it what makes some posters think alex can not picking on alex because i am a fan of his just curious as to know why some posters think any prem club would want him
Conor is 30 now and his career is in decline. To be fair, he could probably still do a job in the right Premier league team. I'm not convinced Mowatt could make the step up, but he's certainly improving still, and might not even reach his peak for another year or two.
I see no reason why he shouldn't. Obviously we won't know till we get there, but he's been the heartbeat of our team and I think he'll make the step up.
He's got better year on year for me, still to hit his peak in my opinion. Let's hope we find out ourselves!
If we're fortunate enough to get to the Premier League, there's at least one club who would want him... Us!
I doubt he’s going to the Prem. There’s always the chance of a Burnley / Palace type taking a punt but the problem is there’s probably at least half of the championship that could offer him double what we can. Only takes one of Sheff Utd, West Brom, Fulham, Brentford, Bournemouth, Swansea, Stoke, Forest, Derby, Middlesbrough, Cardiff & Bristol to make an offer & we’re blown out the water. Can we even compete financially with QPR or Reading? Or even Millwall & Preston? We couldn’t a year or two back.
If we go up we might find cheaper and better elsewhere and withdraw our contract offer like we have with others in the past. We might stay in the championship and lose him. We might stay in he championship and keep him. We might get promoted and he decides to leave anyway. We just don't know.
To me I think they offer different in some ways. Maybe Alex would make it...I think he would after have a pacey midfield around him though for him to do his job. His ego too helps alex lol
His level is top end Championship I think....... mmmmm that’s what we are so come on Alex just resign see where we all end up!
We had a player in the same midfield as Connor, Josh Brownhill. Seemed ok but not in Connor’s league. Josh has gone on to be a regular in Burnley’s team, no reason why Alex couldn’t cut it in the premier league.
I disagree with you about Connor , he has made it in the premier league, he has had quite a lot of game time in the premier & gone on to play international football , his career now is probably past his peak but to suggest he didn"t make it is wrong .
Think it depends on definition of made it TBH. His stats show he only started in the PL 18 games last season, with 9 subs appearances add to that he only completed 5 full games. So I can understand from them stats how someone might argue he failed to make it. That said I agree it seems harsh to say a player who is a regular International starter, has played in the PL, top end of Championship and is one a few players to have scored in all 4 leagues in England didn’t make it.
Hourihane did o.k in the Premier because he only had one foot. Mowatt's the same. They just fall short of top class because they're too one dimensional. If they had the works Mowatt would never have left Leeds and Hourihane would have gone onto Tottenham or Everton.
Much as I love Alex I don’t see him playing in the top league with anyone other than us. Just the lack of pace I’d say he has everything else.
Box to box midfielder, 8 goals and 7 assists. I'd want to keep hold of him regardless of what league we're in. Wouldn't want to make the same mistake as we did when we did get promoted to the prem, when we gave the bigger contracts to new and untested players without giving parity to the captain, and subsequently losing him.
I'd forget about him. It's pie in the sky. We most likely won't go up and he most likely won't sign his new deal.
