He has, his finishing this season hasn't been close to his usual standards really. But he's a much, much tougher player. He mixes it with the opposition centre backs now, which he never used to do. And when he has a poor game, so do the team. First half against Middlesbrough being the prime example. That was a really poor half of football. I think that was due in no small part to Woodrow not being on it. Usually he links the midfield and the attack, but he was having an off day and his passing was going astray. Shows how important you are to the team when your off day results in the team's off day.
I don’t think it works like that. Woodrow is incredible at penalties (this is not me putting the kiss of death on him btw) but that doesn’t mean suddenly every penalty is a guaranteed goal. Look at the last few weeks with us getting 2 penalties whilst Woodrow was off the pitch. My first thought was “oh ****” when I realised that Cauley wasn’t there to take them.
He has gone so I don't really care anymore. He performed a miracle last season keeping us up for which I am grateful. He then had his head turned by NY which is understandable but the way he reacted to that was poor and I am glad that he has gone. The fact the club got such good compensation was a great bit of business. But it could still have happened and Struber left with the fans grateful had he not tried to force us to sack him Had NY not come in I think he would have taken us forward and I am sure we wouldn't have been in the relegation battle but I also don't think we would have been seriously contesting the playoffs. Happy with the way things have turned out. PS dont expect VI to stick around too long if a really good offer comes in either
WTF he did a unbelievable job for us last year, we wouldn't be where we are now if it wasn't for him.
Opinions. Mine is we did ok despite him not because of him. Pure effort and desire from the players kept us up (aided by a points deduction for Wigan). Had a proper manager been in charge who didn't play his mates to the detriment of the team perhaps we wouldn't have been hanging on at the last day? Luckiest manager in bfc history. He ruined Mowatt, ruined Woodrow, underutilised brown, played ritzmaier and radlinger and still got results because the players tried their hardest. Largely the same players (with a couple of notable exceptions) who see us in a promotion place now
I know you don’t like him but just for some parity, what about the flip side of it? He started the emergence of Palmer, played Walton a lot more than our previous managers, got the best out of Chaplin and I’m not sure about the utilisation of Brown given his stats for the season.
I love Struber. Were it not for him, we'd not be fifth, and dreaming of the Premier League. We'd be dealing with the likes of the convicted criminal Joey Barton, and enjoying 'derby' matches with Doncaster. But Struber did the impossible, and we are where we are.
It's always a first class argument when you use "luck" to back it up. You only need to look at points per game under Struber to note that he kept getting lucky on a regular basis. He did not ruin Mowatt or Woodrow. Is Woodrow still ruined? Lord knows why Struber played Ritz - he was rubbish and must have been promised a game if fit. Despite that he kept us up, which unless we get promoted this season will be the exact same result as Val . Let's hope Val gets lucky. Is Andersen still absolutely crap btw?
I enjoyed his time with us and appreciate what he did for us. It didn’t quite click at the start of this season and had he stayed he would have needed to make drastic changes to stop us entering another relegation battle otherwise the axe will have been wielded. It all worked out for both parties him leaving, so win win.
Struber is just the latest person to join a very long list of people who discovered that the grass isn’t always greener.
We stayed up because Callum Styles did something super human against Forest and Clarke Oduor popped up somewhere he wasn't supposed to be against Brentford. Struber subbed players after 20 minutes. Then the next week he played them and then subbed them again. He was negative. He played his mates. He played our best players out of position. But then again he achieved his aims. So you can't have any qualms I don't think.
He did an excellent job & then it went sour when he didn’t get what he wanted. It happened with Hecky & it happened with Stendel. It’ll probably happen with Val when in all likelihood we lose Mowatt & Dike & end up in the bottom half next season. It’s just the way it goes having a small budget in this league. Successful managers end up wanting & feel they deserve what we can’t give them.
Under Ismael, we won the vast majority of games against teams outside the top six, with Woodrow, Frieser, Chaplin, Vic, Schmidt, Miller and Thomas as the available forwards before January.
But surely they knew this before they signed a contract o? Or at least enquired what the fighting fund would be . If they didn’t then they deserve everything the get imo but I don’t think that was the case . Imo once they were in the limelight their agents started their dark deeds .
Probably but I just think it’s natural to think that you should get more money to spend & more responsibility if you do a good job. I just don’t like to see our former managers get bad mouthed on here when they did a good job for us & clearly cared about the club just because they fell out with the owners towards the end of their time with us.
