I'd watch it, and millions around the world would too. I think an apt comparison would be the NFL, nobody cares about the same teams playing each other, though granted it is a much shorter season. The main reason people are upset is because the big clubs generate all of the money, kick them out if you like, but the next TV contract will be for a relative pittance.

Numbers will fall who will view it. I dont know 1 person who likes the idea. Fa have said they will be banned from entering too but to me that's just a threat.

Let them go anyhow. F1ck them. I dont watch any of them anyway. Premier league might get back to its old self next season. So glad I'm a tarn fan.

Say what you like about him, he does come across as a good bloke who hasn’t lost his roots.

Let em have it as far as I’m concerned , but on the understanding that if they go they sever all all links with English football and don’t come back.
Personally no interest in watching anything like that,if it’s not BFC related these days I’m not that fussed anyway.

Would you watch the Premier League if it wasn't open to relegation/promotion?

What a boring idea... and the fans of the clubs are being ignored. They get to play 10 or do other clubs a couple of times during the season.... but what an away trip. I can’t think of anything more dull.

Do you think that real football fans care if the next TV contract is for a relative pittance? I don't. If all clubs in the country got £1m each tomorrow and no more I'd be more than happy

I don't watch it now, and I don't think promotion/relegation makes it any more interesting. A super league would have to take measures to try to maintain parity, but as a closed shop they could implement a salary cap for example to maintain competitiveness. I'd be much more interested to watch Spurs/Inter or Chelsea/Ajax than either of those teams against a Palace side trying to nick a point. In some ways relegation promotes a "must not lose" mentality, which isn't really entertaining.

I think those fans would care when their club couldn't pay next month's bills.

It won't happen. It's ooh hah. There's probably a deeper story somewhere.

Why wouldn't they be able to? The TV deals aren't signed month to month, the last deal for the championship was a five year contract, they're agreed quite a bit in advance too. It's not like they wake up in the morning and find the money has changed immediately.

No point you watching any team near the bottom of the league then, cos they've got no reason to play at all once they realise they can't win the league or get into Europe.

Premier League TV deals are for three years. That's not much time to turn a business around in any kind of orderly fashion.

That argument is used a lot for American sports, but never really seems to be an issue. Perhaps in baseball you see teams completely out of it, but typically it remains competitive.
