He's a dinosaur in the modern game - tactics from 10 years ago don't work now

I suspect the timing is because he doesn't want to be part of the ESL and won't BS by telling the press it's a good thing, thus putting on a false united front with his bosses over their decision, so they got shut.

Not a surprise, but the timing with a cup final in 6 days is a bit strange. Perhaps Jose told Levy of his thoughts on the new super league plans

Silly move from Spurs. The problem isn't the managers it's recruitment. They spend over the odds on poor players and took too long to break up the 2015 squad. Eric Dier is pinching a living never seen a footballer.

Imagine taking over a team in 14th place in November and getting them up to sixth, then sitting in seventh the following season, only five points from the top four and above both Everton and Arsenal; and getting the sack. In the week leading up to the club’s chance to win its first trophy in years.

This will be because they know he won’t keep his trap shut about the abomination the club has signed up to in the ESL, and because they think getting a new manager might make Harry Kane stay. It won’t.

    Pochettino for him

Can see Kane leaving in the summer.

If he wants to win something in his career it wont be with Spurs any time soon.

Either that or the club knew they could bury the news today.

Would love to be him, sign a 3/4 year deal and work only half of it.

It appears he refused to take training today as he didn’t agree with the European Super League. Love or loath him, he has taken a stand if true.

Yeah, he can be a tw*t but fair play to him for having principles on this. I can't imagine Pep ever doing anything like that.

Yes because to have any success you have to play expansive possession based tippy tappy football...

He was being too defensive in my view at Spurs but I think that was driven by him not having a back four he could trust - it was the same at Man Utd who refused to give him money for a centre back, then let Ole sign Harry Maguire for £80million.

I’m not a huge Jose fan by any stretch - and he has spent money - but to be sacked after 15 months when the only centre back he’s been authorised to sign was from the Championship, and the biggest signing in terms of fee was the already agreed to Lo Celso deal who was already at the club on loan, it’s a bit much. He’s arrogant, divisive, rubs people up the wrong way. But everyone in the game knows that, Daniel Levy did, and employed him just over a year ago. To tap out now is really, really poor.

This all stems from Levy thinking that the level Pochettino had Spurs playing at was their natural level when in fact they were massively overachieving under him to be in the top 4 regularly & doing well in Europe with little investment.

After a bad few months he then sacks Pochettino & brings in Mourinho & throws money at him to supposedly win trophies only to see a manager park the bus every time they go a goal in front & drop 18 points from winning positions.

He’s been nothing short of a disaster but Levy deserves most of the criticism. He should’ve backed Pochettino with the money he’s gave Mourinho.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Mourihnio, his football might be boring but he's quite a character. Can't fault his managerial record.

Define 'fortune'? Because when you look at Van Dijk, Maguire, Dias, John Stones and the £25 million Burnley wanted for Tarkowski from West Ham, I don't believe he was given the CBs he was demanding.

They weren't signed with the expectation of being the first choice CB pairing. Spurs are exactly where they should be in the league for the squad they've got but Jose was on a hiding to nothing from the start as the love for Poch was so strong and they didn't want him to leave - even though they were dropping like a stone. They wouldn't have had European Football this season without switching. Not that much of a disaster all things considered.

If that were really the case my opinion of him would go up a bit. (to be fair, given my opinion of him now, it's got a lot of head-room)

Never liked the guy. He's literally spent billions at all the clubs he's been at over the years. His teams play the most boring brand of football and for all the money he's spent his teams have won very little
