So does anyone know how this works in the US?
In England and Wales, if you’re guilty of murder, you can’t possibly be guilty of man slaughter for the same death. As it’s a matter of intent.

    Anyone?

I wonder how many would have the same opinion if George Floyd had threatened their heavily pregnant wife, daughter, niece, sister et al with shooting the unborn child if she didn't hand over her worldly belongings. The policeman involved went too far but the victim was vermin and if he hadn't met his end that night it wouldn't have been long before it happened. Good riddance in that respect but the way in which the police dealt with the situation was totally unacceptable. However I believe that the officer dealt with the victim in the way he did because he was known to the police and they thought he was a threat to them.

Jury’s would be instructed to ignore previous crimes/convictions/etc.

Juries wouldn't know of his previous misdemeanours otherwise he wouldn't have been free in the first place

Because you said "the policeman went too far but..." then go on to try and justify why he did what he did. There is no justification for his actions.

Think this was always going to happen, the riots would go off the chart.

Its crazy to me that kneeling on the neck as Chauvin did is the way they actually train them in the academy to hold. Why??? Surely its common sense its just pure dangerous?

At least Floyd's family can now rest a little easier knowing justice has been served.
