Voters asked about Johnson’s corruption before the local elections… “It is all nit-picking, stirred up by Labour and the media.” “I think Johnson has done well on the Covid vaccine and Brexit and that is what is important, not this stuff.” “Boris has done quite a good job. I like him – he’s quite a character.” If Johnson ordered these peoples death’s they’d support him while blaming Labour with their last breath.
I’m confused- I thought grown up, electable politics with no vision or values was going to win seats not lose them? Don’t these people understand how forensic Kieth is at PMQs!!
Not if a majority of the electorate are ignorant. While we're at it could you explain Johnson's vision and values.
It'll be interesting to see the result of the by-election in Hartlepool. Hanging monkeys is one thing but voting for more Boris is quite another
Untouchable by the electorate yes. He's served his purpose now though, the tories will be replacing him soon enough. I'm convinced they'd have already done so if not for Covid. They're letting him eat up the negative press for mistakes that were made first.
I'm not so sure, for every bit of dirt someone has on him you can be guaranteed he's got the same on them. Mutually assured destruction.
The electorate don't watch PMQs. And if they did they wouldn't care. Starmer's not as funny, hasn't got the hair or drive bulldozers through cardboard walls to get Brexit done. That's what the electorate want.
What genuinely hadn’t occurred to me till I read this, is that the Tories getting rid of Johnson (which they’re definitely engineering as we speak) could be a huge mistake. Because even though he’s completely unfit for high office, populism works. If they replace him with a fit and proper leader (by Tory standards) we’ll see a significant difference in voter intent.
@StatisTYKE Grown up, electable, forensic politics- anyone that doesn’t agree with me is ignorant. Johnson’s vision and values are of him as a man of the people, get on with it, jobs and British values. Kieth has had a year and numerous open goals to disprove that but all he’s managed so far are a meme about wallpaper and forensic appearances at PMQs for myopic craft beer centrist dads to wet themselves over. Losing a seat that was Labour the last 2 elections should be the wake up call needed, but instead I see it’s the fault of the majority of people being ignorant.
He was put there to entice the brainless into voting for the Tories. That's all. He plays the part of "The Loveable Rogue" and that's unfortunately enough for many people. It's a sad state of affairs, but he's done his job now, they're in for 5 years (at the time this government took charge) and now I fully expect him to get replaced by someone that is more ruthless. Like I say I think Covid put a dent in the plans because now Boris is left there to take the heat. Next election could be interesting. Could lose them the next election if they don't have a popular candidate. They may even change leader again going into that.
Unbelievable. I'll add that to the quotes in my original post. The values displayed by this 'man of the people' are widely acknowledged to be lying, deception, hypocrisy, self interest and greed. Are these the British values you're talking about?
Set himself up for a fall there, I feel. Be refreshing to see someone within the Labour party come out and express the opinion that whilst ever people are going to vote based on catchy slogans and advertising billboards, there will never be an effective government running this country, or a change for the better. As such Labour will fail to make the in roads in this local election with many disenfranchised supporters of both parties looking towards independents and smaller parties, and there will be even less of a driving force behind public policy. What we really need is a benevolent dictator who will get stuff done. And that is why I don't post on political threads.
They all start out as benevolent dictators who get stuff done. That's how they rise to power. Then things tend to wrong.
I think we've become a nation of self-serving, flag-shagging, foreigner-hating, I'm-alright-Jack nasty individuals. A nation happy to vote for someone responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths, who lies and lies and lies again, who allows taxpayer money to be funnelled off to friends in a once-in-a-lifetime crisis, provided he does it with a bit of engineered buffoonery and "forgets" to brush his hair.
Hartlepool should have been lost at the last election when you look at how the right wing vote split Tory and Brexit Party. With no Brexit Party of note now, that vote will stack on to the other far right vote, the Tories and even if Labour increased its vote share a little, it still hasn't enough to claw back over half the share Tories + BXP got last time.
A bit of unfair stick for Johnson here I think. You’d have to have been living on Planet Mars to not understand exactly who he is and what he stands for. That’s always been clear. A sufficient number of the English electorate like that and will vote for it. Add that to a woeful election process and you get him as PM. As they used to say on Tiswas. “ this is what they want.”
