Back to the OP... presumably some of those 2019 figures are relevant to Premiership* and League One seasons. The gaps will have closed a little in this season. Maybe not a lot though.

*Apologies to those this triggers :D

Goes to show how the highly paid footballers in those teams are just not worth the money.

I would recommend anyone on here to listen to the Price of Football podcast.

If someone wants to blow money they dont have on a football team , so be it.

We been there done that , with no gaurantees we wont be going down that road again.

This is the nature of league football, there is a big pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the road to it and the journey back after collecting are two veey different journeys.

The great thing about this group of people is that you can always learn something new. I didn't know that a cajón is a kind of drum as well as a drawer. I've just looked it up and it's a box drum in Peruvian and Afro-Peruvian music. It looks like a drawer with a lid, and a hole in the lid to let the sound out. It's beaten with the hands. I bet it was first made from old drawers, so when your old drawers look worn out, don't put them in the clothing recycling bin, tack a lid on with a hole and get banging them. (but not at Oakwell. I can't stand those "bands")

I had a look at the three year numbers for these clubs and it makes interesting reading especially for Reading.

Reading cumulative three year losses to June 2020 £93m (FFP maximum is £39m, expect to see sanctions on Reading)
Birmingham cumulative three year losses to June 2020 £64m and that includes a £15m profit from the sale of land/buildings to a related entity
Forest cumulative three year losses to May 2020 £47m
Stoke City cumulative three year loss to May 2019 £42m (their cap will be higher (£83m given the premier league in 17 and 18) but this will reduce to £61m in 2020.

I know that there is expenditure that does not count towards FFP but this, in most case would be less than £500k pa. There is also the Premier league exemption which extends losses from the £13m for a season to £35m for a season spent in the premier league.

I expect to see no sanctions for any of them.
It would do the EFL great harm to their brand if they penalise big clubs with a large following on such a scale. One or two of the blatant worst offenders possibly but not a wholesale punishment.
They do however, have to do something. Our club is well and sensibly run, and rightly so, we should not suffer because other clubs are profligate and try and buy success. The people that own these clubs have zero interest in the game or the club but merely have them to either make money quickly or asset strip or both. They won’t lose personal money if the venture fails because of UK corporate laws.
I have a feeling though that even more draconian measures may have to be taken for football to get its house back in order.

I’m pretty sure that people such as Tony Fernandes at QPR, Dejphon Chansiri at Wednesday and Ellis Short at Sunderland will all have lost pretty sizeable amounts from their forays in to the football world.
