Government and SAGE meeting today over mounting concern re Indian variant. Looking like Monday‘s lockdown easements could be in jeopardy. Don’t count on getting a pint before you go to the game. In fact don’t count on going to the game at all.

If they stop the pubs opening it'll be carnage. I've spent about five grand on stock over the past week, and my place is relatively tiny.

If he comes out looking relatively smart you will be ok. If his hair looks like Ken Dodd was electrocuted, then cancel plans for Monday - and be glad we aren't playing Blackburn or Bolton.

He's been on once this week already, so you have to assume they have something to say. Not like dePfeffel to interrupt the run up to his weekend.

It could well be just downplaying the variant or some academic review of that variant and its effects. You'd think that would be the case after he'd sent Cleverley out to do the media rounds earlier and say there was no evidence at all that the indian variant was more dangerous or transmissable.

They dont care though do they - that said it would be a massive overreation to cancel the relaxation on Monday now the indian coronavirus has a few local hotspots but doesnt seem any more serious or vaccine resistant than any other version - I think it will just be a be careful message for Friday and telling us to use common sense etc, laying the groundwork to blame Joe Public when they delay the June 21 opening up

I agree. June was always wildly optimistic anyway - like I said on here a while back we're planning for October at the absolute earliest.

The Indian variants (there are 3) appear to be more transmissible than standard Covid - and is overtaking the Kent variant across the UK - but vaccine efficacy is around 80% so the experts think it is *unlikely* that it will lead to a high death toll - it *could* however lead to a lot of lost work through the unvaccinated being unwell - so having an economic impact.

Don't worry, he'll be coming on to say the vaccine HE invented kills the Indian variant 110% dead so "I urge you to get vaccinated as soon as possible then we can all go on our jollies this summer". He must be sick of the sight of Carrie by now.

I can't take all the credit, I paraphrased something I read earlier on Twitter.

Who makes the decisions at this point? Government or Sage? Covid won't disappear and the world will never be a safe place.

Monday we has under 100 admitted to hospital for the first time since August. We have just gone under 1000 English hospital patients. The vaccines appear to work as the important stats are not rising. Too much is made of infections. This isn't like last autumn when nobody had been jabbed. If the roadmap is delayed there should be protests up and down the country.

Once again the incompetence of this fekin joke of a government strikes !!
Why wasn’t the route from India etc stopped or at least monitored , This has plagued India for months but yet Numpty boy and his blockheads had done nothing till it’s hit us again .
This fekin lot are supposed to protect us but all they’ve e done is secure theirs and their families personal finances yet again while rest in us are imatetial to their needs .
Hope Winnie from Wakefield and Willie from Hartlepool are happy at least !!

I can see the Tier system returning again on a regional/local level.

Which to be fair, is probably the most sensible way of doing it. We can’t ignore this new strain, but we can’t also close down areas just for the sake of it. A tiered system is the best way of doing it.

The same tier system like last time which should have seen London locked down but didn't. New variants will come we can't lockdown again.

Think the 21st of June is more a worry, which could once again be catastrophic for my company & anyone in events.

    A tiered system isn’t a lockdown unless it’s severe.

Just restrictions as required. You can’t ignore it - just got to control it. To not restrict regionally, could well lead to another lockdown.
