Honestly mate I think almost everyone (I want say everyone because there's always a few idiots) understand why there are quite a few people who are extra cautious because of their family members. It might not always come across that way but I promise you I completely get why you'd be extremely worried and why churtonred has been extremely worried too, and jamdrop for her parents, biglil for Laura etc.

To be fair there's a lot of evidence that masks make a lot of difference with correct usage. What there isn't is any evidence that masks used by Joe public without social distancing and without proper mask discipline make any difference

is there any evidence that masks used by idiots who take them off and put them back on regularly, continually touch their face, pilot them down to talk, and use them instead of any distancing have any benefit?

I'll just say this once and people can hold whatever view they want, that's fine and they can fundamentally disagree with it however much they like.

I've said numerous times i'm in a unique situation that I'd gladly rather not be in. I'd love to be out and about, meeting people I've not seen for over a year, going to places I've not been for over a year, or even yet been and having a widened world than 4 walls and a garden and a couple of walk circuits at times when there are fewer people about.

The rates are gladly coming down, as are deaths, as are hospitalisations and vaccinations seem to be doing pretty well. That's all great news.

It would just be nice if there was just a little bit more prudence and caution. In fact sod that, if there was a gradual testing of the waters as people ease back to doing what they like and enjoy. The next stage gets underway on Monday, I've no issue with that. I'm not bitter that I can't join in. I simply worry that it will get the pants ripped out of it and all caution will be thrown to the wind by some people which could assist driving rates up again, and when rates get higher, that poses a significantly greater risk for those that the vaccine doesn't work for. It might be considered selfish, but I'd just like it if people could just be aware that such people exist and they aren't wanting a world of perpetual lockdown.

If a mask can reduce the dispersion of aerosols (and they must, otherwise why do they exist?) by even a moderate amount, thats better than not having one, no? If you're walking down a street and theres loads of room, theres no particular need to walk within centimetres of a complete stranger is there?

For some people those tiny little things can actually matter a hell of a lot, even if they'd prefer it if they didn't at all.

OK whatever, the "idiots" will keep pulling their masks up/down because they are uncomfortable and not needed . A few states in America now have done away with masks and social distancing and are doing fine.

Genuine question here given your circumstances, would you be willing to go if people did have to wear masks at all times?

    Eliminate this terrible 'social distancing'.

    Just scrap it.

    Murder it.

    Get rid of it.

I agree but you get the people who are all for social distancing, mask wearing etc. Have they got a 3 year old that now thinks this is the new normal(I haven't got a 3yr old by the way). Also the same people who are forever preaching this stuff are quite happy to go to morrisons and pick up a pack of oranges that have been picked up, squeezed and fingered by god knows who

It's a completely fair question and thanks for asking it. Personally, I think I've reconciled that I'm unlikely to be at a crowded event again which rules out so many things I love doing. And you could easily say, well, if you aren't going to attend, why should others wear face masks, just stay away. Which is fair, and I will be doing that.

Just in my mind, I thought, probably more through hope than expectation, that there may be an easing back into things. I've just read the information posted about those attending Oakwell and it sounds much more reasoned than what I'm witnessing on my telly screen just now.

This (cup final) being a test event as I understand it the social distancing ect is massively reduced if any at all but the testing ramped up, to see the impact of having it. Basically a experiment, I suppose when you sit and think of it is a moral grey area. Out game on Monday is the opposite, no testing but in theory a lot more caution as a result. I suppose both sides of that have merit in theory.
On your other post like others have said I fully understand your situation and approach. As I've said many times on the other side as its the impact that lockdown has had on my family that's the issue. Sadly for me it's no longer a fear of what could happen but it actually has happened. I do though after much thought on the issue see both sides of the situation. I wish you and your loved ones well, I really do.

Just seen a bit on the news, it’s nonsensical , socially distance inside , packed like sardines at the ticket barriers!
