It's why golf a great game. Not many sports where someone who is 48 can compete against someone half their age and win. Will done him.

I'm 51, I played 9 holes this aft and walked off with a bad knee . Proper wimp.
I'm absolutely chuffed for Richard Bland.

I never arrange a game until I've triple checked the weather forecast. Nowt worse than trying to grip clubs and hit a ball when its cold, the rain is penetrating your clothes and water is running off yer nose.

I’m just waiting for the “I don’t play golf” group to come on say golf isn’t a sport it’s a pastime

Two hours for nine holes? Par for the course surely?

Yes ... I've been behind many a group that take so long... so frustrating (like the game itself) that so many people hold quicker players up

What do you consider a normal time for a 4 ball to do 18 holes? Took us just under 4 hours on Friday

Three to three and a half hours, depending on several issues such as length of course and weather conditions

Edit - Hit it, find it. hit it again

That seems very quick for a four ball - 10 minutes per hole - the 11tth is a 550 yard par 5, it would take you nearly 10 minutes just to walk from tee to hole without bothering with clubs and a ball!!!

Happy to oblige. A good walk wasted. :)

Joking aside. Ryder cup is pure sporting theatre.

I’d go 3 and a half to 4 hours round Oulton where I play , the deciding factor is not how long the course is it’s how many are on it and how good they are .

Got stuck behind a society once at The Glen up in North Berwick. Five and a half hours to get to the 17th. Walked off in disgust.
The following day at Gullane we (a two ball) started behind a fourball of locals with sinking hearts only to struggle to keep pace with them and getting round in three and a half.
Four and a half should be a maximum really.

If I’m in a four ball I always let a 2 or 1 through as long as there’s a clear hole ahead, good manners.

I know. My experience of societies though is that most of them don't give a t**s.
Been three years since I played now. I need to dust the clubs off! :)

It was Cookridge in Leeds. I once went round there in two and a half hours on an empty course on my own. If folk walk quickly between shots it makes a world of difference. To be fair the rain did slow everyone down, it was pretty rubbish considering it was only meant to be light stuff.

Wuss! ;) Try a couple of rounds at the Limes on a wet miserable Saturday (8am tee-off) in November thru February on winter greens with only a pie and a pint at lunch time to sustain you for the afternoon slog. The 16th and 18th holes uphill were a bit of a slog when the fairways were getting a bit squelchy . No idea why I subjected myself to the 1st 18 holes never mind going again instead of staying in the clubhouse to thaw out especially as I used to have to bus it back home to Monk Bretton no having a car.

Then again I was only 19 and pretty enthusiastic ( stupid ) at the time . I recall the pro there at the time was called Mike Melling. Anyone remember him?
